Baking Soda Teeth Whitening

Are you looking to get your teeth whitened? Have you considered all the options at your disposal? There are so many teeth whitening products and services available today that it's very hard to choose. Among the products available are whitening toothpastes and mouthwashes, whitening tray systems, whitening strip systems, etc. You can also choose to have your teeth whitened by a professional dentist. You will pay more for this, but the results are almost insantaneous. It takes the dentist less than an hour to achieve the same results that will take you a week or two when you are using a whitening kit for use at home.

But if all of this is just too much of a hassle for you, there is another way of whitening your teeth in the comfort of your own home for cheap. It's called baking soda teeth whitening and it's as easy as one, two, three and A, B, C!

Baking Soda Teeth Whitening

The ingredients used in this whitening method are baking soda and hydrogen peroxide.

Baking soda is, at a tiny level, very coarse and abrasive. The baking soda is used to give your teeth a scrubbing they don't normally get from regular toothpaste. The baking soda is a pretty hard material, but because your teeth are harder still, they won't be damaged from this scrubbing. The baking soda also kills various micro organisms. This reduces the chances of you developing irritated gums or diseases of the mouth. Lastly, it will also neutralize certain acid types. This decreases plaque formation on your teeth.

Hydrogen peroxide is a very aggressive substance. This will perform the actual whitening of your teeth. But because it is so aggressive, you must not buy a hydrogen peroxide solution with a concentration that is higher than 3%. As soon as the hydrogen peroxide comes into contact with anything moist, it will start to chemically react. This will cause it to foam a little. This foaming chemical reaction can penetrate your teeth's enamel and break down the discolored stains therein. The broken down byproducts are colorless and your enamel will again be transparant. The natural whiteness of your teeth is now again revealed.

Of all the home remedies for teeth whitening that I have come across, this one is by far the most effective. All you have to do is put a few drops of the hydrogen peroxide in a cup and then add a heaping spoon of the baking soda. You can stir it a little to turn it into a paste. Use this paste to brush your teeth just like you normally would. Make sure to reach everywhere. Once you are done, rinse your mouth with water very thoroughly. Then brush again with a fluoride toothpaste to immediately allow your enamel to recover from the baking soda/hydrogen peroxide mixture.
