Barcelona Represents an Excellent Summer Time Escape

By Edited Jul 10, 2015 0 1

When you may be deciding where you might like to spend your yearly holiday vacation, I would certainly recommend the capital city of Barcelona. Barcelona is the capital of the Catalonia region within Spain and it is truly a city that can offer something for everyone. I would like to present you with just a few examples of some of the benefits that you could experience, if perhaps deciding upon this excellent holiday destination.
To begin with, I would recommend that you visit Barcelona during the months of June and July because this is certainly the time when you will get the best weather and also because there are simply so many things going on in the city throughout these months. For music lovers, June & July present a couple of the best music festivals throughout all of Europe and these consist of the Sonar Music Festival, which is typically held throughout the third week in June, as well as the Monegros festival, which is held the third week in July. Actually, if you can arrive in Barcelona a little bit earlier in the month of May, you will also have the option to get to the popular Primavera Sound Festival, which typically takes place the last weekend in May.
Of course one of the main reasons for visiting Barcelona is its fabulous beaches. Now although there are extensive beaches in Barcelona, which are excellent for taking in some sun, relaxing, people watching, & grabbing a drink, it´ll really be worth your while to visit the beaches outside of Barcelona, which are much cleaner and much less crowded. Simply by taking the RENFE train half an hour or less, you can visit such nice beaches as Castelldefels, Sitges, Ocata, as well as many others. If perhaps you don´t mind traveling a little bit further afield, I would definitely recommend to visit the beaches of Tarragona, Lloret de Mar, and Tossa de Mar, which are all about one hour outside of Barcelona, but which will offer you first class beaches that are much cleaner and much more enjoyable than those closer to the city.
Surely, Barcelona offers so much in terms of history, art, and architecture, as such famous people like Picasso, Gaudí, Miró, Dalí, & Grácia Márquez among others, lived in and greatly influenced this city. There are certainly a number of monuments and attractions that you really should visit, especially if it is your first time in Barcelona. Worth noting are such impressive attractions as the Sagrada Familia Cathedral, the Picasso Museum, Park Güell, Casa Batlló, Palau de la Música, & the Cathedral in the ancient gothic quarter. Obviously, there certainly exists many other sites and attractions that are worthy of a visit and it is certainly recommended that you research a bit more, so that you can be sure to view everything that may be of interest to you.
Yet another beauty about Barcelona is that it is a fabulous city in which to get lost. You will find that Barcelona is comprised of various "barrios," all of which offer their own unique style and feeling. I would definitely recommend that you stroll through and discover the many shops, restaurants, bars, and plazas in the neighborhoods of El Born, Grácia, Eixample, El Gótico, & Barceloneta. Be sure that you take the time to enjoy such simple pleasures as taking a siesta, enjoying the "tapas" and sangria, and if you want to try and fit in be sure to order a "caña" or "clara" at any bar or restaurant. Such simplicities truly allow you to relax and enjoy yourself, especially when you may become tired or a little bit stressed after an event filled day of sightseeing.
So as you can see from the examples above, Barcelona is certainly a city that can appeal to a vast array of people for many different reasons. No matter if you are looking to relax, take in impressive historical sites, discover some of the world´s finest art, party the day and night away, or whether you are looking for anything else, I am sure that Barcelona could very well represent the perfect escape for you during you next holiday vacation. But don´t take my word for it; discover Barcelona for yourself.
