How to Make Christmas Cookies

If you were to interview 100 different Grand mothers, you would probably get 100 different Christmas cookie recipes. The variations usually involve adding non traditional ingredients like orange zest, coconut and other fun ingredients.

While these Christmas cookie variations are mostly great, the one thing that never really changes is the basic Christmas cookie dough recipe. So follow this easy recipe, then you can go to your Grandma to see what she recommends adding to spice up your Christmas cookies!

Christmas Cookies

1/2 cup (or 1 stick) butter (or margarine) at room temperature
1/2 cup brown sugar, lightly packed
2 tablespoons sugar
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1 large egg
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

In a bowl, mix together all the ingredients except for the flour. Mix the blend of ingredients together with an electric mixer until the mixture is nice and fluffy.

Next, reduce the speed on your mixer to low and slowly add the flour into our mixture mixing until the dough is well blended.

Pre Heat your oven to 350 F

Either use a tablespoon to create little flattened balls or use a rolling pin to roll out the dough before using cookie cutters to cut out Christmas shapes.

Place the shaped dough on a baking sheet and back for 12-15 minutes.

Your cookies should come out with a slight golden hue.
