Optimizing web pages to rank better in search engine results

How to implement SEO to your website

Search engines can be compared to some well-oiled machines, they are constantly tweaked in order to maximize their intended use – and that is to provide the most relevant information to people who are in search of information online. The most well-known search engine is, of course, Google. It is a restless beast that is constantly spewing forth information 24/7.

The power behind Google’s search engine is its SE algorithm (the formula being a closely-guarded secret, by the way) which is always subjected to constant tweaking and modification, the most recent were the “Panda” updates or alternatively called the “Farmer’s” algorithm updates. The update was meant to downplay the ranking of content farms’ pages in search engine results.

Search engine algorithm updates are done in order to refine and make the information that would be presented to individuals more targeted. With this constant tweaking of SE algorithms, it is usually difficult for businesses to rank their websites in search engine results pages (SERPs). However, some rudimentary rules of search engine optimization (SEO) haven’t change, YET. We can apply these factors whenever we optimize our website’s visibility in search engines.

Backlinks

The number of backlinks pointing to a site is a big factor in search engine algorithms. Generally, the higher the number of backlinks pointing to your website, the higher your site will rank in search engine results pages. However, this is not the primordial consideration in SEO – I only say “generally” – because backlinks spamming is done rampantly all over the web in order to trick the search engines.

Keywords

Instead of pointing all backlinks of any kind to your website, make it a point that the backlinks contain the keywords that you want your website to rank for. If your website is all about buying cheap TV sets, you may include the keywords “TV set,” “cheap TVs,” or “cheap television sets” in the backlinks pointing to your website.

Now you may ask, how do I make a backlink pointing to my website? Well, there are many things that you can do in order to create a backlinks to your website. One of the most popular techniques is article marketing. There are many online article directories that allow you to publish your articles, and this, in turn, will allow you to put hyperlinks in your articles which point back to your website. Another technique is profile backlinking. Many forum websites allow you to create a backlink pointing back to your site in your forum profile page with your keywords in it.

Website Domain Name, Title, and Description (and all other Meta Tags)

When you have a website, it is a plus (in terms of search engine optimization) to include in yourwebsite’s domain name the keyword that you are trying to rank for. If you are selling cheap computer parts, buy a domain name which would read like www.cheapcomputerparts.com or other alternative domain names containing your chosen keywords.

Optimizing the meta tags of your website is also advised. Be sure that your websites title, description, and the keywords tags will contain all things related to the contents of your website.

Website Content

It is not discouraged that you use website contents and articles coming from other websites because content syndication is still common online. Some say that duplicate content will tend to lower yourwebsite’s ranking in SERPs; however, there’s still no concrete evidence on this matter. With the recent Panda search engine algorithm updates, original website contents were seen to rank higher in search engine results than duplicate contents. Duplicate content tends to pollute the world wide web with the same and similar content, thus search engines lower their keyword rankings.

Practically speaking, it is better to write original content because search engines, especially Google, like to provide a good user experience when someone uses the search engines to search for information in the web. Normally, original content is keyword-targeted, well-written, fresh, and informative as compared to the clutter of duplicate content across the web.

Sitemap

A sitemap page contains all the links to all the pages of your website. Having a website sitemap will help the search engine robots to locate all the web pages in a given domain and list these in the search engine directory pages.

At present, there are numerous factors that make up a search engine algorithm; it’s hard to copy the exact formula and apply this in order to maximize your website’s visibility in the search engine results pages. However, the enumerated search engine optimization basics will be able to help you boost yourwebsite’s online presence anyhow.
