This article describes how you can experience physical fitness through an understanding of the concept.
Many misconceptions abound concerning the meaning and definition of physical fitness. It is seen by some people to mean being lean or thin. Others view fitness as building up one's muscles. It the actual meaning, physical fitness is being physically fit and normal. If you are physically fit, you are able to function optimally. It tells how much one is healthy.
Definition of Physical Fitness
Physical fitness is defined as the state or condition of being physically healthy, as a result of exercise, correct nutrition, and enough rest. It is therefore being in good condition of general well-being, seen in physical soundness and mental balance. The capacity of the heart, lungs, muscles, and blood vessels, to function optimally, indicates that one is physically fit.
Physical fitness affects one's productivity, mental capacity, immunity, stress management, physical outlook, and a happy state of mind. When one is physically fit, such is free from illness and able to cope with daily activities without getting tired, enjoys leisure and copes with emergencies.
Components of Physical Fitness
In defining physical fitness, there are varying definitions, largely due to misconception of the term, but it is agreed that there are five basic components of physical fitness, for moderately tasking occupation or lifestyle of an average person.
These basic health related components of physical fitness are body composition, flexibility, muscular endurance, muscular strength, and cardio-respiratory endurance.
The health related components are the major components of physical fitness. Skill related components of physical fitness include balance, power, agility, coordination, speed and reaction time.
Becoming Physically Fit
You can begin to make changes in your life by engaging in physical activity. Most physical exercises can meet the needs of the various components of physical fitness mentioned above. Get busy on a daily basis with such exercises as recreational swimming, bicycling, jogging, brisk walking, and running, to experience physical fitness is sure.
