In order to understand the uses of Basil essential oil you must first understand more about the plant itself. Basil is a plant that is found in warm climates.  It is native to India but now it is commonly found in Europe and other areas around the world.  It has been used for medicinal purposes in Asia for thousands of years. The plant can be found in many different varieties but the most common used for essential oils is the plant two to three feet high with pink flowers and oval hairy leaves.

Research of essential oils have come a very long way in the last few years and there is still more research to be done. None of these health benefits, or the ideas below, have been evaluated or approved by the FDA. The ideas in this article should not be used in place of personal judgment or medical treatment when needed. It is also not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease.

To help you understand more about the uses of Basil oil, you need to understand that the properties of the oil are. First of all, it is antibiotic in nature. Many people will use this oil in connection with different illness, especially those linked to the respiratory system such as Bronchitis and asthma. It has also been found to help uplift the mood and help people with depression. Many people will use the oil on sore, aching muscles.

Basil oil has a wide variety of biological and physiological uses. It is said that it can calm the central nervous system.  Because the oil is a cooling oil, it can be used for any number of skin conditions including rheumatic pain, and irritated skin. The oil can be applied topically, internally, and diffused into the air. Many people will also use Basil essential oil topically on the skin for anything from bug bites to improving circulation in the body. If you are experiencing an earache, putting some Basil oil on a cotton ball and placing it on or behind the ear has been found to decrease the pain.

It is important to remember when using essential oils that quality matters. Not all products are created equal. You need to make sure that the oils you use are 100% pure and natural. I would only recommend using quality oils from known and respected brands.
