Bathroom Cleaning
BATHROOM CLEANING - TUBS
How To Clean Bathtub: Those who complain about the length of time it takes to clean their bathtubs are usually the same people who do not clean them on a regular basis. Add this part of your bathroom cleaning to your regular cleaning schedule and you will be amazed at how much time you save yourself.
To prevent soap build up, you should wipe down your bathtub and rinse it with clean water after each use. Thereafter, the bathtub should be thoroughly cleaned once a week.
Many people think that in order to properly clean their bathrooms, they need to purchase bathroom cleaners specifically designed to clean bathtubs. The problem with these bathroom cleaners is that they are usually on the expensive side. Instead, try utilizing cleaners that you already have around the house and see if they work. For example, liquid dishwashing liquid works extremely well as a routine bathtub cleaner. Moreover, liquid laundry detergent effectively cleans grime build-up. It has also been shown to help remove hard water discoloration. So, before you run out and spend a bund of money on expensive bathroom cleaners, try Palm Olive liquid dishwashing detergent or Tide!
Cleaning Bathtub Caution: Bathtubs often have nice, shiny surfaces which are easily damaged. As a result, do not use abrasive cleaners or scrubs to clean them or you may be left with a dull appearing bathtub. Additionally, if your bathtub is made of fiberglass, avoid any products containing acetone or ethyl alcohol as those products will severely damage the surface of the fiberglass bathtub.
How To Clean Drain Cover: When you are cleaning your bathtub, make sure you do not forget the drain cover. If it is removable, remove the drain cover and thoroughly clean it. Additionally, clean the bathtub surface usually covered by the drain cover prior to putting it back on.
How To Clean Bathroom Rugs: Most bathroom rugs are similar to thick, heavy bath towels and, accordingly, can be washed in the washing machine with your towels. Obviously, however, you need to follow the manufacturer's instructions. For example, bathroom rugs that have a latex backing need to be washed separately. Those without the latex backing are usually safe to wash and dry with your towel load.
Cleaning Bathroom Rugs Caution: Always wash your bathroom rugs prior to using them. This will help prevent the color from bleeding onto your feet and/or the bathroom floor.
BATHROOM CLEANING - SHOWER STALLS
How To Clean Bathroom Shower Stalls: Three problems usually result if you fail to clean your bathroom shower stall on a regular basis: soap scum, mildew and hard-water stains. However, if you stick to a regular maintenance program, these issues can be reduced, if not eliminated. The following steps should be included in your bathroom shower stall cleaning routine. First, remove all of your shower products from the shower stall. This will prevent your bottles of shower products from blocking the application of your shower cleaners. Next, use an all-purpose cleaner and spray down the shower walls, fixtures, floors and curtain (or glass door, if that is what your shower stall has). Third, wipe down the shower with a sponge or pad. A great choice is a scrubber pad made of nylon. Start at the top of the shower stall and work your way down, being careful to concentrate on any location that shows signs of soap build up or a stain. Fourth, rinse all of the surfaces (again, starting at the top) with warm water and dry with a soft towel. Finally, use rubbing alcohol and a dry cloth to shine any chrome fixtures to give a clean shower stall that something extra.
Clean Shower Stall Tips: One way to prevent soap scum build up, you can apply lemon oil furniture polish over the surface of the shower stall. Obviously, however, you need to be diligent that you do not get polish on the shower floor or you will risk a future slip and fall.
Another method to retard mineral deposit and soap scum from forming on the surface of shower stalls, you can use a squeegee or chamois to dry off the shower, shower doors, and fixtures. Not only will this prevent soap scum build up, thereby saving you a ton of time cleaning in the future, it will also keep germs from growing. This is important because germs will start to die within two hours of being on a dry surface. On the other hand, wet surfaces will permit germs to breed exponentially and form a virtual germ breeding ground.
BATHROOM CLEANING - SINKS
How To Clean Bathroom Sinks: While most people believe that the toilet is the most germ-ridden place of your home, most are surprised to learn that bathroom sinks are one of the worst offenders. Accordingly, to keep your bathroom sinks clean, you must concentrate on cleaning the entire sink and the sink drain. First, ensure that you are using a sterilized sponge to avoid simply moving germs around from place to place. Second, spray down the sink surface area with a disinfectant and allow to sit for five minutes. Third, use the sterilized sponge and scrub thoroughly. Fourth, rinse with warm water. Finally, dry with a soft towel.
BATHROOM CLEANING - TOILETS
How To Clean Toilets: While it is unquestionably one of the worst jobs you need to do during your bathroom cleaning, it needs to be done and needs to be done often. The following steps make up the best proven method of cleaning toilets. First, drain the water from the toilet bowl. This can be done by turning off the water value to the toilet and flushing the toilet or by using a plunger and forcing the water through the neck at the bottom of the toilet. Either method will work fine for this cleaning method. Next, fill the tank with boiling water and then let it drain. In addition to killing some of the bacteria as a result of the boiling water, the heat from the water will also open up the pours in the surface of the tank thereby permitting it to be cleaned easier. Third, scrub the toilet using a toilet brush and a cleaning product that contains bleach. Finally, after you have scrub all of the surfaces of the toilet, including under the rim, turn the water back on and flush a final time once the water fills the tank.
