Be A Careful Shopper Buy Factory Refurbished Laptops

By | Nov 30, 2009 | 0 Comments | Rating: 0

Unless you live in a large metropolitan city, the best shopping source for factory refurbished laptops is through the internet. Whatever city you live in there is most likely a computer geek who has taken used computers, analyzed them to find out what works or not, replaced a few parts, and then offers them for sale. That is not a good refurbished laptop.

Factory refurbished laptops are computers that have been returned to their manufacturer for whatever reason. Trained technicians carefully test the equipment and then remove what is broken and replace it with new parts to bring the laptop back to original condition. This is a reliable repair to the extent that many of computer manufacturers will warranty the unit for a full year. That is a major point in buying a reliable, used, but factory refurbished laptop.

There are several areas of concern that you should consider when looking for factory refurbished laptops:

  • A Seller with Integrity – BizRate, Buy Safe, and Better Business Bureau seals of accountability for the seller are things the shopper should first look for in their pursuit of a reliable factory refurbished laptop.
  • Product Warranty – Look for warranty of the product that is listed clearly and that you fully understand. Never buy anything without reading the conditions and terms of the warranty. A good minimum warranty period is thirty days. Generally most refurbished laptops have one year warranties. The question of extended warranties often arises. It is a generally accepted rule that you should not purchase an extended warranty on any item that costs less than $500.
  • Online Sellers – One of the best places to purchase a factory refurbished laptop online is through eBay. The backers of the website have established guidelines to provide a good market place for shoppers and have a reliable system for reporting fraudulent practices to the public. It is wise to find a seller that has used eBay for many of his transactions. You will no doubt find several sellers of good quality. Select at least three and using these guidelines make your selection based upon your potential use of the machine.
  • Customer Service – Check for the availability of real technicians that will provide support for your purchase. Before you buy, place a call to the posted service department number and ascertain the reliability of the service they will provide for you if you purchase from that company.
  • Know What You Are Buying – Look for a complete breakdown or description of the product you wish to buy. Herein lies a secret to buying factory refurbished laptop computers. Generally the factory will provide a list of specifications of the machine that they have refurbished. Do not buy anything unless all the features you are looking for are listed. Make sure that there is a picture of the item you wish to purchase is shown as well as a complete description of all the features, software, and expected performance is listed. It is often wise to make a hard copy print out of the web page that lists the product.
All in all, consider these things and you should have an enjoyable experience buying factory refurbished laptops. Happy computing!!!
