Be More Comfortable With a Fireplace Plug

By | 1 Comments | Rating: 0 | |

Up to thirty percent of the hard earned money you spend on your winter heating bill escapes through the closed damper of an unused fireplace. The chimney continually draws warm air out of the house and requires that your primary heat source continue to work harder in order to replace that warmed air. In order to stop throwing money in the fireplace, get a fireplace plug.

A fireplace plug is a plastic inflatable pillow that is very effective at sealing the fireplace chimney. Once the plug is in place, there is no more draft and virtually no heat loss through the chimney. While the plug may resemble an inflatable swim toy, the material it is made of is specially chosen to be resistant to the acids in wood soot and creosote so that the plug is long lasting.

You should only use the plug in a cool fireplace. The opening to the chimney should be free of sharp metal or masonry that could damage the plug. Remove the soot and creosote using a brush or scraper. Inflate the plug and lift it into the chimney opening. Adjust the handle to keep the plug in place.

Welcome to thirty percent savings on your heating and cooling bills.

In order to use the fireplace, all that you need to do is remove the plug and pull the handle to open the damper. When the fire dies down, let the fireplace cool and close the damper. Re-insert the fireplace plug in the opening. The fireplace doors or screen conceals the handle so that no one knows that it is there.

In one month, the average home heating bill will drop enough to cover the cost of the fireplace plug. In addition, you will find that the plug makes the home more comfortable. You will immediately notice that drafts coming into the home around switches, plugs and windows are stopped. The natural vacuum caused by the chimney has been plugged and that cold air is no longer being drawn into the home to have to be heated by your furnace.

With the fireplace vacuum sealed, you will no longer get the downdrafts and bursts of hot or cold air that are brought into your home through the chimney. There is no need for them to come back into the home to fill the vacuum and the opening that they used to come through has been plugged. If the children ask, Santa's magic can still get around the plug.
