If you talk about what makes up the most beautiful cars in the world, arguments start to break out! For what it’s worth, the following is a list of what I perceive to be the most beautiful cars in the world. If you don’t agree, then let me know! But you had better be armed with a photo of a stunningly beautiful car!
5. Citroen DS
These days Citroen are best known for producing pedestrian people carriers, and sporty super mini’s that adapt well to the attentions of young men in track suits. It’s hard to believe that history unveils a car maker with more than an eye for a beautiful design. Citroen have won a whole host of awards over the years for some of its design classics, and none more so than the achingly beautiful DS.
4 Jaguar XK120
Jaguar has been through a tumultuous time lately, with more take-overs than a small building society. Things seem to have stabilised under the stewardship of Tata – the giant who bought out Ford last year – but they are certainly not creating vehicles as beautiful as the XK120.
Incredibly, this vehicle was the fastest road car in the world at the time of production – between 1948 and 1954. It’s top speed of 120mph indicated in the name. It wasn’t the speed of this vehicle though that made it an almost instant classic. The simple flowing lines from front to back are so elegant, and viewed from the side, it is a car with poise and balance. They certainly don’t make them like this anymore, which is a crying shame.
3 The Bugatti Type 57
The Bugatti Type 57 looks so regal, you almost expect it to wear a crown. This incredible car of the 1930’s only made it to three examples, such was the cost of production. With an incredible top speed of 123mph it was way ahead of its time.
Retrospectively, this Bugatti was spoken of as the first super car ever made, and it’s easy to see why. The beautiful tear drop design gives it a wonderfully attacking stance and an elegance not normally found.
2 Jaguar E Type
This is the car that normally sits at the top of most people’s lists. It is a beautiful car, and there isn’t much I wouldn’t do to own one!
The E Type is one of a handful of cars instantly known by its name rather than its marque, such is its iconic status. A shape all of its own, the E type is instantly recognisable the world over. It’s a beautiful car, but it’s not quite top dog in this list!
1 Lamborghini Miura
The Miura was built by Lamborghini to show Ferrari a thing or two and it certainly did that. Despite being produced over 45 years ago, the Miura was able to propel itself from 0 to 62Mph in just 6.7 seconds, and was capable of achieving a top speed of 171 Mph.
The performance was just one string to the bow of the Miura. This is a car that has gone down in history as one of the most beautiful ever built, and a quick glance at its smooth flowing lines reinforces just how long lived its good looks are now. While clearly a car from the 60’s and 70’s, it still somehow looks modern and relevant. It’s undoubtedly a timeless classic, and it sits pretty at the top of the tree for me!
