Beginners Guide To Gardening

By | 0 Comments | Rating: 0 | |

If you are thinking of taking up gardening as a hobby then it can be difficult to know where to begin! Gardening is a vast subject and there are many people who struggle to even get started. In this article I'll be talking about a few of the more basic things that you need to know before you even consider starting to learn how to make your garden look perfect.

· When you start off it is usually a good idea to do it in a small garden. This means that you can focus your attention no one area more and also see the results of your labour sooner. If you have a large garden then pick a smaller area of it to concentrate on and you'll be able to get much more done. You'll also learn a lot more about how the plants grow, potential problems with gardening and controlling weeds. Also remember that gardening isn't all about plants, it can be about garden furniture too!

· Before you begin make sure you have all the basic gardening tools that you need. For example a rake, shovel, hoe and water hose are the essential items but you might also consider getting a sprinkler and stakes. Having everything that you need to hand can make gardening a lot more fun, plus if you have already spent money on the tools then you have more of an incentive to keep learning! However there is no point buying the highest quality tools you can find when you aren't sure how far you will get when gardening.

· Don't be afraid to start planting things as soon as possible. Like anything, the best way of learning how to garden is to try different things out and see what works. If you don't start then you'll never master gardening so get going, you have nothing to lose! If you think you have made a mistake with your gardening then see what you could improve and learn from the mistake. It's by far the best way of getting better.

When you are starting gardening it can be tempting to buy lots of gardening books to try and help your development. While buying one or two books might be a good idea, focus on something that you want to learn and finish that book before buying a new one. Gardening can be an expensive hobby but it doesn't have to be, especially when you are starting out. Get going with the basic essentials and then move onto bigger tools and techniques when you know what you need.
