Benefits to Sleeping on a Memory Foam Mattress

By Edited Nov 19, 2013 0 0

Nearly two years ago I took the leap from using a traditional coil mattress to a world famous memory foam mattress. I had quite a few back and neck problems that were stemming to my shoulders and hips and were making my life quite miserable. After sleeping on a memory foam mattress for nearly two years I can honestly say my quality of life has improved dramatically.

These are some reasons why I'd suggest a Memory Foam Mattress to any of my family and friends

Memory Foam Mattresses Provide Spinal Support

This was probably the single biggest factor in my decision when I decided to take the plunge and buy a memory foam mattress. While I was only 25 when I bought my memory foam mattress I was already beginning to develop arthritis in my upper spine and lower neck from being run over by a car at 18 year old. My standard coil mattress, while it supported parts of my body didn't contour to my spine or the particular angle I was sleeping. My old mattress had me resenting the idea of going to sleep because I would always wake up soar and stiff.

Once I switched to a memory foam mattress it took me a few weeks before I really started to notice my inflammation go down. My upper back, neck and shoulders all started feeling relaxed when I awoke in the morning instead of stiff and old. The beauty of a memory foam mattress is that it adjusts to your bodies temperature and dynamically molds to the shape of your body ensuring every piece of your body has it's weight supported.

Memory Foam Mattresses Add Comfort

Comfort is obviously something you are going to seriously take into consideration when purchasing your mattress. Like every other type of mattress, memory foam mattresses come in many different levels of firmness. My last mattress was very squishy which drove me insane. So I chose something a little more firm. Like I mentioned above, since memory foam forms around your body it provides an unmatched level of comfort that is only available from memory foam mattresses.

Memory Foam Mattresses Improve Quality of Sleep

Prior to my memory foam mattress purchase, I had a really hard time sleeping. Over the course of the seven years after my accident I had less than ten nights where I slept all the way through without waking up in pain. Immediately after starting to sleep on my memory foam mattress I found I was sleeping all the way through the night almost nightly. I had completely forgotten what a good nights sleep felt like since I spent so many years suffering on my old mattress.

Memory Foam Mattresses are Easy to Clean

The ladies out there will definitely appreciate this one. Unlike your typical mattress, most memory foam mattresses have a zip off cover that is easy to remove and wash. I have a cat that likes to pee on my bed, so I've been forced to have to wash my bed very frequently. The ability to clean the mattress cover can also help with allergies.

Memory Foam Mattresses Reduced my Snoring

Another issue I used to experience, or my girlfriend would experience was my obnoxious snoring. It was so bad that she would occasionally have to go sleep on the couch in order to get a good night sleep herself. I'm not sure if it is a complete coincidence or if the memory foam mattress helped me here, but since I've had the mattress my snoring has been reduced almost completely. Give me a few beers and I could probably still rip out a good snore, but normally, you won't hear a peep from me.

Memory Foam Mattresses Reduce Motion Transfer

Let's face it, some people sleep like babies and others toss and turn. If you or your partner tosses and turns chances are you are driving each other nuts and preventing the other person from experiencing a good night sleep. Memory foam mattresses are very resistant to motion transfer. I've actually done the test they perform on TV commercials where they put a glass of wine on the bed the bounce around. Believe it or not, it stays perfectly still. Again this is more of a benefit for my girlfriend as I have a tendency to move around a lot.

Memory Foam Mattresses are More Durable

Unlike coils (springs) memory foam does not lose its ability to bounce back over time. Springs get old and tired and memory foam always seems to bounce back. Making an investment in a memory foam mattress is an investment that can last you a very long time where coil mattresses a need to be replaced bare minimum every ten years. Many memory foam mattress companies actually offer life time warranties in case anything ever happens to the form and function of your memory foam mattress.

These are just some of my personal reasons why I suggest to everyone to invest in your spine's health and buy a memory foam mattress today!
