I have had to deal with acne off and on since I was in high school. It seems to never completely go away. I am one of those people who have no idea what it feels like to have truly clear skin. There is always something on my face. The most annoying kind of acne I have is cystic acne. I tend to always have 1 or 2 cystic acne type of pimples on my chin. They are large, hard and red. There is absolutely no way to pop them even if I wanted to because there is just no head on it, it's all underneath the skin's surface.

Recently I tried a benzoyl peroxide acne treatment to see if it would help to clear up my chin. Reason being, for what seems to be no reason, my chin absolutely erupted over the last 6 weeks and I wanted to cut my face off. It was seriously so frustrating.

I didn't change anything at all in my skin care routine before the acne flared up and that just adds to the frustration. For the last few months I have been using a gentle facial cleanser, Clinique's clarifying lotion and their moisturizing gel with no problems. For once I thought I had actually gotten rid of the cystic pimples. Wrong. They came back.

I did a bunch of research online and read reviews on dozens and dozens of products that people have tried using to get rid of acne and benzoyl peroxide was getting great reviews for acne so I decided to try it. I picked up a tube that was 5% benzyol peroxide with tea tree oil and began using it every night. After about 1 week my face was getting very dry and I expected that. I started using more moisturizer and then I also began to use the benzoyl peroxide acne remedy only every other night instead of every night.

It has been about 2 weeks since I began using this acne treatment and it has provided amazing results. I have no new pimples and the others are finally beginning to diminish and they are no longer painful, hard bumps.

The Proactiv Acne Treatment contains benzoyl peroxide and I believe that is the reason that it is so effective for a lot of people. If you don't have a lot of money to spend on the entire Proactiv package, try picking up a tube of benzoyl peroxide gel. Don't use the cream version, be sure it's the gel. It lasts longer because you don't need to use as much and it won't create patches of white on your face after it has dried.
Just a word of caution, benzoyl peroxide will bleach fabrics including towels and sheets. The best way to deal with that is to use old towels, white towels and then use an old pillowcase or cover it with a towel.
