The SanDisk Sansa Clip Zip is the evolution of the very popular Sansa Clip and Clip+ mp3 players. The Clip is a relatively cheap mp3 player, costing only about $50. The Clip boasts 4gb of onboard storage for music and podcasts. That translates into about 1000 songs in mp3, according to SanDisk! With battery life of around 15 hours, you can listen every day of the week during your commute or workout and not need to recharge (unless you have a crazy commute of workout!).

If you’re familiar with the original Sansa Clip or Sansa Clip+ the most noticeable difference for the Clip Zip will be the 1.1” full color screen. This screen can display album artwork, artist name, song title, time, and battery indicator. Other great features include a slot for accommodating a Micro SDHC card up to 32Gb, an FM radio receiver (which unfortunately doesn’t pick up much), stopwatch, and voice recorder. Don’t forget the clip which will allow you to attach the Clip Zip mp3 player to your clothes without having to buy an additional strap or case!

How big is the CZ? Only 2.25” by 1.42” by 0.58”.
Does the player come with headphones? Yes!
How’s battery life? The CZ runs for about 15 hours on a charge.
Can the CZ record FM radio? Yes, though you have to pull in a radio station first, which can be difficult. Though if you do, it is capable of showing RDS info with station and song name.

Probably the best innovation of the Sansa Clip Zip from its predecessors is not the color screen but the ability to play more file types. Unlike the Clip and Clip+, the Clip Zip can play AAC files from iTunes. In addition, the Clip Zip can also play mp3, WMA, secure WMA, Ogg Vorbis, and FLAC files. I remember converting all my iTunes AAC files to mp3 in order to play them on the original Clip and Clip+ and it was a time-consuming hassle. It’s great to see that SanDisk has addressed this shortcoming.

Who is the Clip for? I personally use it for running, cycling, going to the gym, commuting, and air travel! It has plenty of capacity for storing the songs and podcasts I need to make it through the week. Even better, I don’t have to charge it very often! Though if I do have to charge it then it requires a micro USB cable (included) which is not as common as the older mini USB that was on the Clip and Clip+. The Clip Zip is the best small mp3 player for going to the gym or exercising outside since it has a built in clip to keep it attached while you run, lift, or whatever

If you’re looking for a cheap, small mp3 player with 4Gb (or more) storage, look no further than the SanDisk Sansa Clip Zip! And now there’s an 8Gb model as well.
