5 US Cities to Visit in September and/or October

The months of September & October are great time to visit the USA and not have to deal with any one cities extreme heat or harsh winters. Additionally, September/October vacations also allow travelers to avoid the spring break and summer crowds and save money as this time is considered “off season.” Top Places to visit include:

Hawaii: Since September/October is the “off season” you can get rock bottom rates along with a dose of the islands beautiful weather. There are several festivals and holidays in Hawaii during the months of September and October including the Aloha Festival which is a celebration of Hawaii’s music, dance & history; the Kaua’I Mokihana Festival which is a weeklong festival that includes workshops, contests, music, folk crafts and Hawaiian language; Queen Lili’uokalani Music Festival and Concert, an all day festival which again has lots of music, arts, crafts, food and a mass hula with over 500 dancers; Halloween in Lahaina also known as the “Mardi Gras of the Pacific,” where over 30,0000 revelers come to Front Street on Halloween night; Hawaii International Film Festival which lasts two weeks and is known for discovering features and documentaries from Asia made by Asians, films about the Pacific made by Pacific Islanders and films made by Hawaii filmmakers. Ironman World Championship where competitors try to compete a 2.4 mile ocean swim, 112 mile bike race and 1 26.2 mile run in 17 hours or less.  

New York City: During the months of September & October, the weather is beautiful in New York and you’re able to avoid the summer crowd when traveling during this time. New York is jam packed with tourist attractions including the Empire State Building, The Statue of Liberty, Rockefeller Center, Ellis Island, the Museum of Modern Art (MOMA), Times Square and more…. There are tv/movie/film tours, bicycle stores, walking tours and hip hop excursions. After all of the day activities, you can take in NYC nightlife by attending a Broadway show, Jazz or comedy club, live music show, trendy restaurant or party at a club (quite a few stay open all night!). Don’t forget the shopping because NYC houses all of the top designers alongside some of the best deals on clothing. Remember that September & October are part of football season which means you may be able to schedule some time to watch a Jets or Giants game at their nearby stadium in NJ.  

 Boston, MA: Mid September to late October is one of the most glorious times of the year in Boston, MA with warm, dry, sunny days and nights that are pleasantly cool or may sometimes get a slight chill. Activities include Boston Wine Week gives wine aficionados a chance to enjoy special offerings from a number of Boston restaurants known for their excellent cellars, the Boston concert series which always features an eclectic group of today’s most popular artists, football (New England Patriots), hockey (Bruins), basketball (Celtics), baseball (Red Sox), Boston film festival, Boston Arts festival, Beantown Jazz festival, Boston fashion week among others.

Los Angeles, CA: Summers in Los Angeles can be scorching so September & October Fall vacations to the region should be much more pleasant weather for activities such as the LA Greek Festival with everything from authentic Greek food and beverages to traditional music and dance, LA Latino International Film festival celebrating the richness and diversity of Latino filmmaking, West Hollywood’s Halloween Carnival known as one of the largest Halloween celebrations and events in the US, Disney Land, Sunset Boulevard with its clubs and nightlife,  Rodeo Drive’s famous upscale shopping area, Universal Studios Hollywood movie-style theme park, miles & miles of beaches which are an iconic part of many people’s images of Los Angeles, Hollywood where you’ll find the famous “Walk of Fame,” Paramount studios, Hollywood Heritage Museum and a bunch of other sites. Sporting events include basketball (Lakers, Clippers), Hockey (Kings), and Soccer (Galaxy) among others.
