Best bait for mouse trap number 1. Vanilla extract...Vanilla extract has been used and in very effective way to lure a mouse or rat to a trap. What you do is get a cotton ball and give it 2 to 3 drops of vanilla extract. Then put the cotton ball close to the mouse trap. Vanilla extract is an excellent bait because it emits a strong scent that draws rats and mice to it. This doesn't work very good with squirrel traps and mole traps as these rodents are attracted by different scents.

Best bait for mouse trap number 2. Peanut butter...Numerous people swear that peanut butter is by far the best bait for catching a mouse. Mice are really attracted to foods that have fat, grains and sweets in them. Peanut butter is the best pick because it has all these qualities. It's important to use a peanut butter that won't turn runny when left out for a while. It's suggested to use branded peanut butter.

I just bait my trap right away...If you have some smart mice you'll need to put a small container of peanut butter in the area where the mice commonly are. Let them eat the peanut butter for a few days without the trap. They'll get used to the peanut butter and will be coming back looking for more free yummy food. After a few days have passed, dab peanut butter on the mouse traps and place them it in the same area as you put the free food. In no time you should have caught the little critter.

Best food for mouse trap number 3. Sunflower Seeds...Mice love sunflower seeds! These work good in traps that have a food tray or small container that the sunflower seeds can sit in. Simply put a single sunflower seed in the tray. Sunflower seeds have a pretty hard covering that requires a bit of work to get the seed inside. When the mouse begins gnawing at the sunflower seed bait the trap will go off and you've caught the mouse. The mouse trap that works best with sunflower seeds in is the Ortho Press N Set or other similar device.

Best bait for mouse traps number 4. Chocolate...Yes believe it or not chocolate is great bait for mouse traps they have sweet tooth's too. I have had goody trays out with all kinds of hard and soft candies and the mice really like the chocolate. Chocolate is similar to sunflower seeds in that its harder and when the mice try to lift it up or eat it there will be enough flutter to set the trap trigger to catch the thieving mouse.

These are the 4 most preferred baits for catching mice. Some baits may be more effective than others. If you're dealing with the problem of How to Get Rid of Mice in Walls you will need to try different baits in order to see what draws them out. But usually the mice will come out at night when alls quite.

Some baits will have a mouse in the trap fast or it could be days before you catch your first critter. If you believe you have a mouse infestation in your house, you might need to call an exterminator rather than using mousetraps as mice breed fast and mousetraps are most effective catching one mouse at a time.
