If your goal is to lose belly fat, then its means that you will need to start an at home workout routine that allows you to quickly burn fat and lower your body fat percentage. Lot's of people complain that they just want to lose belly fat. You can not pick and choose were you want to lose body fat from your body. When you lose body fat you lose it from all over your body, not just from your belly area.

So before you start it would be a good idea to get your body fat percentage measured so that you can determine whether or not you are losing body fat as you are losing body weight. The quickest and easiest way to do this is with the use of body fat scales. A word of warning though, these scales are not 100% accurate, but they are a fantastic and very quick way to gauge what your body composition is. You can also take body fat percentage measurements using body fat calipers. These calipers are very inexpensive and will cost you just a few dollars to buy.

You have got your body fat percentage measurement it is now time to start burning calories. So this is were you will need to buy yourself a piece of cardio exercise equipment that you can easily fit into your home. Personally I do all my cardio exercise on a Life Fitness exercise bike I bought off eBay. My exercise bike tells me how many calories I'm burning, what my heart rate is and it also allows me to train hard and intense with the all the different pre installed exercise programs built into the machine.

The aim is to lose fat and lower your body fat percentage, so the cardio exercise should be short and intense. Lots of fitness gurus tell you to train within your target heart range for hours at a time. This is because within this heart range you are using fat for fuel instead of important lean muscle mass. Whilst this is partly true. This type of cardio exercise has got many disadvantages.

Number one its long and boring which means you are more likely to quit and number 2 it doesn't elevate your metabolic rate following your workouts. High intensity cardio training elevates your metabolism for several hours following your workout. This means that your body is burning more calories which means much quicker fat loss.

Good cardio exercise routines to do at home include stationery exercise bike, cross trainer and treadmill to name just a few. Just buy a piece of cardio equipment that is within your budget and will fit easily into your home. Like I mentioned earlier when it comes to buying exercise equipment you tend to get what you pay for. So do what I did and buy second hand off eBay. My life fitness exercise bike would of cost $1500 brand new I got mine for an amazing $200. It is one of the best bargains I've ever had in my life.

So if you are looking for high quality home gym equipment at bargain prices it is definitely worth buying second hand used machines.

OK, you have got your cardio exercise machines how many time per week should I workout on them and for how long. Well speaking from personal experience I would look at doing around three to four 20 – 30 minute long high intensity workouts per week. The best time of the day to do these workouts is definitely the morning. This is because it is going to kick-start your metabolism for the rest of the day, which results in more calories burnt which leads to an increase in body fat lost.

Exercise routines to do at home which will help build and maintain lean muscle mass

Cardio exercise is going to help with fat loss, but to ensure that you maintain or even build lean muscle mass as you are losing fat. It's very important that you train with weights. Traditionally a set of weights were big and bulky and most people didn't have the room within their homes to house them.

Well not any more you can buy a set of adjustable dumbbells, which is like owning 15 different set. The dumbbells that I am talking about are the bowflex 552 adjustable dumbbells. These dumbbells will allow you to quickly and easily train your full body. And the best part is they take up very little room.

Maybe lifting weights isn't for you, if you fit into this category then why not try buying yourself a set of push up bars and a pull up bars. You can now buy both all designed into one piece of equipment. And guess what it will cost you well under $30 to buy.
