Best Fruit for Weight Loss

Is There a Single Best Fruit for Weight Loss?

There isn't any one best fruit for weight loss, however not all fruits are created equal.  If you're looking to lose some weight, just adding fruits to your daily diet is a big step in the right direction.  Once you've done this, you may become more selective to the fruits you eat in order to maximize weight loss.  Everyone has their own preferences, but I believe there are certain fruits that everyone should include in their diet.

Blueberries
I think blueberries are the best fruit for weight loss.  They've been widely referred to as a super food because of their nutritional value and antioxidant activity.  Here are some important facts about blueberries:
-80 calories per cup.
-High in fiber, which helps keep your heart and cholesterol in check.
-According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, blueberries are very high in antioxidant activity.
-These antioxidants help neutralize molecules that can be linked to cancer, cardiovascular disease and other aging diseases.
-According to the U.S. Highbush Blueberry Council, you can get almost 25% of your daily vitamin C requirement in one serving of blueberries.
-They are a low-glycemic index food, which means they help regulate your blood sugar.

Raspberries
Raspberries are another great fruit for weight loss.  Actually, any types of berries are an excellent choice for a healthy diet.  Like blueberries, raspberries contain a high number of antioxidants that are linked to health protection.  Here are some other important facts about raspberries:
-1 cup contains about 50% of your daily amount of vitamin C.
-1 cup contains about 30% of your daily amount of dietary fiber.
-They are a low-glycemic index food, which means they help regulate your blood sugar.

Apricots
Apricots are a very nutritious fruit that is rich in fiber and vitamin A, which is known to help with one's vision.  Here are some important facts about apricots:
-1 cup is about 75 calories.
-Since they are a good source of fiber, they help with your overall digestion of food.  They are also given to patients who are experiencing constipation.
-According to Dr. Mehmet Oz (The Dr. Oz Show), apricots reduce the risk of stomach cancer by 47%.
-Great source of iron.

Apples
Apples are a great fruit for weight loss because they are low in calories and their skin is very nutritious.  However, make sure to rinse off the apple before eating it to remove any pesticides.
-A medium apple is only 65 calories
-Apples may reduce the risk of colon cancer, prostate cancer and lung cancer.
-Apple skins are a good source of fiber
-They are an easy snack to pack and bring with you wherever you go.

Peaches
Peaches are a great fruit for weight loss because they are low in calories, carbohydrates, and do not contain any saturated fats.  They are also filled with many health promoting compounds and vitamins.  Here are some other important facts about peaches:
-39 calories per 100 grams
-9 grams of carbohydrates per 100 grams.
-Rich in many essential minerals such as potassium, fluoride and iron.
-Source of vitamin A and B-carotene.
-Eating fruits that are rich in vitamin A offer protection against lung and oral cavity cancers.

When eating most fruits, make sure to rinse them off, so you don't consume any pesticides that may be on them.  This is especially true for fruit with thin skins.  Also, dried fruits can make a convenient, healthy snack that is easy to take with you.  However, many dried fruits you see at the grocery store have large amounts of sugar added to them.  Make sure to check the list of ingredients to ensure there isn't any extra sugar added.

Adding any fruits to your diet will help aid in weight loss, especially if your current eating habits aren't very healthy.  As I mentioned earlier, I think blueberries are the best fruit for weight loss, as well as for improving your overall health in general.  This is just my opinion though, please feel free to leave your opinion in the comments secion at the end of the article.

Each fruit has its benefits, but I highly recommend eating any type of berry, as well as apricots, peaches and apples. They can be used as a snack on their own, added to cereal or yogurt, or mixed with some lite cool whip as a healthy dessert.  Enjoy!
