Best Guitar Amplifiers under 200 Dollars

A guitar amplifier is a major purchase along with your guitar.  These can run you hundreds of dollars and even into the thousands. For beginner guitar players there’s no reason to spend this much on an amplifier that you’re only going to be using for practice.  These devices can get extremely loud so it’s best to purchase a small practice amplifier if you’re just beginning to learn.

In this article we’ll look at several small amplifiers that not only sound great but that are under $200.00 dollars.  You can get quite a few decent sounding units for under this price that you’ll be satisfied with for years to come. These amplifers are light enough to carry with you when you go to lessons with your guitar teacher.

Pignose HOG20 Amplifier

The Pignose is one of those practice amplifiers that people talk about and it's for good reason. This little amplifier has a very nice sound in such a little package. The front panel on the unit includes tone, volume and squeal for distortion. The unit also features a headphone jack so you can practice alone without disturbing others. Marshall MG15FX Guitar Combo Amplifier - 8 Inch, 15 Watts

This amplifier was the staple of my guitar teaching studio for a long time. This little unit sounds great when distorted and has several built in effects including chorus, reverb, delay, flanger, and phaser. You can't use all the effects at one but you can get some nice sounds out of the unit. The 15 watt MG15FX includes an 8 inch speaker, four switchable channels, and a 3-band EQ for changing your tone. You have clean, crunch, overdrive 1, and overdrive 2 channels for tone variations. This is a great practice amplifier for $150.00.

Fender Frontman 25R Electric Guitar Amplifier

My first major amplifier was a Fender but this company also makes some great small practice amplifiers. This 25 watt unit has two selectable channels normal and drive. You'll find tone, volume, treble, bass, and mid, knobs for shaping your overall sound with this amplifier. Like many Fender amplifiers this one has the famous Fender reverb sound built into the unit. The amplifier has a headphone jack for all thos elate night practice sessions and an input jack for a CD or other equipment. The unit is only 25 pounds so it's perfect to take to that next practice session. This amplifier retails for just under $100.00.

This Line 6 Spider amplifier offers some amazing features for such a small practice unit. The amplifier is fifteen watts and features four amp models for a wide variety of custom sounds which can be recalled at the push of a button. The unit has several effects including chorus, flange, phaser, tremolo, echoes, and reverb settings. Things to Remember With Amplifiers Under 200 Dollars

When buying an amplifier under 200 dollars just remember that you will get what you pay for. This means that these amplifiers are perfect for practicing on but can’t stand up to regular abuse. These amplifiers will lose some of their good tones if you crank them up since the smaller speakers can’t take that type of punishment. You can enhance the sound of these units with a good distortion pedal, wah-wah or other effect and get even more sounds out of them.  Use these for practicing or small gigs but don’t expect them to deliver anything else for you.  This is just a small sampling of some of the great amplifiers you can buy for under 200 dollars.
