Things You Will Need

Some need for information about hemorrhoid treatment options and hemorrhoid treatment in general.

Step 1

If you currently suffer from the pain and itch of hemorrhoids, it is likely that you will be able to use a hemorrhoids home treatment to help alleviate the problem. While most hemorrhoids aren't a serious health risk, they can be very uncomfortable and difficult to tolerate, because of the pain and itching. Fortunately, there are some good home treatments you can use which can be effective.

Step 2

There are both internal and external types of hemorrhoids. If you have external hemorrhoids, you will find that warm baths or sitz baths can do a lot to help alleviate the pain and itch. Cold compresses or an ice bag can also be an effective hemorrhoids home treatment. You can also use natural astringents on external hemorrhoids, such as witch hazel, aloe vera gel or liquid, or apple cider vinegar. Using soft toilet tissue or moist wipes after bowel movements can also be helpful for external hemorrhoids.

Step 3

If you have internal hemorrhoids, hard stools can often cause irritation, causing pain and even bleeding. You can help alleviate this problem by drinking plenty of water, and adding foods such as fruits, vegetables and whole grains to your diet. This will help keep your stool soft, which will cause less irritation. You can also use a mild stool softener if necessary. Following this type of diet can also be an effective hemorrhoids home treatment for external hemorrhoids as well.

Step 4

There are several hemorrhoids home treatments that are effective for either internal or external hemorrhoids. Anything you can do to increase blood circulation can be helpful, and you should try to avoid sitting or standing for long periods of time. Instead, take short breaks that will enable you to move around a bit. Exercises such as walking can also be helpful, but avoid exercises such as weight lifting, as it can aggravate hemorrhoids.

Step 5

Simple over-the-counter creams, preparations and suppositories can be used for hemorrhoids when necessary and can usually be prescribed by your local hemorrhoid relief center. If you have exterior hemorrhoids, simply apply the preparation externally. For internal hemorrhoids, you can use suppositories or the applicator that normally comes with the creams and preparations.
