While going to the spa can be fun, a lot of us don’t have the money or time to go for lengthy, expensive treatments. Below is a source of equally beneficial face that can be made from items in your kitchen in no time!
Banana & Honey
- 1 banana, preferably ripe (you can keep ripe bananas in the freezer. Let it thaw before using)
- 1 tbsp. honey
- An orange or a lemon
Mash the banana in a small bowl and mix the honey in. Once you have a loose paste add a squeeze of the lemon/orange (about 15 drops). Apply to your face with a foundation brush, paint brush or just your fingers. Let it sit for 15 minutes and then rinse it off with cool water.
When I made this face mask I used a bit less honey for a thicker paste.
Strawberry & Lemmon Juice
- 1 tsp. lemon juice
- 2 egg whites
- 3 tsp. honey
- 1 cup strawberries
- Optional: 4 drops of your favorite essential oils
Mix all of the ingredients together in a small bowl. Smooth the mixture onto the face and let it sit for 10 to 15 minutes. Use a warm washcloth to take it off. Rinse your face with very cold water to close up the pores on you r face.
For acne prone skin these are the best face masks.
- 1-3 aspirin
- Coffee cup or glass cup
- Shallow dish
- Warm honey (runny honey), moisturizer made for the face or natural oil such as almond, olive or coconut
For treating a small area use one aspirin, for covering large areas use 3. Crush the aspirin by rolling the coffee cup over them until they form a smooth powder. In the shallow dish heat up a few drops of honey. Add the powder to the dish and mix until it forms a runny paste. Apply to infected area and let it sit on the skin/pimple for 10 minutes. Wash off with a warm wash cloth followed by cold water to minimize future breakouts. Warning: Do not leave on for longer than the suggested time. Aspirin may damage skin if left for extended periods of time.
Strawberry Sour Cream
- 1/4 cup strawberries (fresh, not frozen please)
- 1/4 cup sour cream or non-flavored yogurt
Strawberries are a natural source of salicylic acid, found in all acne medication. This is a natural, healthier way of attaining the clear skin you want.
Mash the strawberries into a jam-like consistency. Add the sour cream (I prefer yogurt for the thickness) and mix until the mixture is smooth. (A blender works great!) Apply to skin and relax. After 15 to 20 minutes rinse the mixture from your face with luke warm water. If you want to close your pores up to prevent bacteria from spreading rub an ice cube over the skin.
For dry skin these are the best face masks
- ½ avocado
- ¼ cup honey
Mash the avocado until it becomes creamy and smooth. Add the honey and mix until fully blended. Massage onto face and let it moisturize your skin for 15-30 minutes. Rinse off with luke warm water as to not rinse away the skins natural oils. This face mask also works great as a deep conditioning hair mask.
- 1 tsp. powdered milk
- 1 tbsp. runny honey
- 1 tsp. aloe Vera gel
- 2 drops essential oil
Mix the ingredients together making sure they are well blended. Apply to face with a brush. Let it sit for 15 – 20 minutes. Rinse off with cool water. Amazing hydrating, healing and soothing benefits from the honey and aloe Vera!
Great face masks for any skin
- 4 Tbsp. finely ground espresso or coffee beans
- 4 Tbsp. unsweetened cocoa powder
- 8 Tbsp. dairy product: whole milk, cream, plain yogurt, sour cream (basically any dairy product) If you have very dry or aggravated skin substitute the dairy for oil: coconut (works perfectly), olive oil, sunflower oil, jojoba oil
- 2 Tbsp. honey (if you have dry skin) or lemon juice (if you have oily skin)
Make sure the espresso beans are very finely ground (don’t want to scratch your skin!). Mix well with the cocoa powder. Add dairy/oil and honey. Blend until a thick syrup like consistency is formed. Apply to skin and let sit for 20 minutes. Rinse off with a luke warm washcloth. Every time I use this face mask I use less dairy/oil so it is more of a paste than syrup to prevent it from dripping. An amazing, energizing face mask that gets rid of dead skin and brightens existing skin at the same time!
Brightening & Cleansing
- 1 tbsp. oatmeal, finely ground
- 1 tbsp. live, organic yogurt (Plain!)
- A few drops of honey
Mix the oatmeal and honey in a small bowl. Warm honey, best way to do this is by running a spoon under warm water for a few seconds and then putting the few drops of honey on the spoon. Add honey to the bowl and mix. Very gently massage onto face and let sit for 20 minutes. Rinse off with warm water (not hot) and follow by moisturizer. This is a great recipe because of the simplicity.
Rejuvenating and Cleansing
- 1/2 cup fresh pumpkin pulp (unsweetened canned pumpkin works fine too)
- 2 eggs
- 2 teaspoon almond milk (for dry or combo skin)
- 1 teaspoon honey (for dry skin)
- 2 teaspoon apple cider vinegar or cranberry juice (if you have oily skin)
In a blender, blend the pumpkin until very smooth. (About 1 minute) Blend in the eggs and either the almond milk, honey or apple cider vinegar. Blend until smooth. Apply to face and wait 10 minutes before rinsing off with cool water. Quick and easy this recipe really lives up to its name!
