Best Homemade Halloween Costumes

By Edited Jun 3, 2015 0 0

I was going through the closet the other day, and I found some of my old homemade Halloween costumes. I felt silly for having saved the things. I also felt very sentimental about them.

The robot costume took up the most room. It was basically just a box spray painted silver with some dryer tubes coming off the side. I thought I was a real robot while I was wearing it.

It takes a little bit of imagination to make a good Halloween costume. Kids can be wary about wearing homemade Halloween costumes. They don't want to be made fun of.

Don't try to get too elaborate. This will take too long, and might end up being horrible. Simplicity is the key to making a costume.

Beside my robot costume was my skeleton costume. It was something special. My mother had taken a plastic skeleton, sawed all the pieces in half the long way, and then glued the pieces onto black pants and a black shirt.

In the dark I really looked like a skeleton. She also put some makeup on my face to make it look like a skeleton's face. I was a spooky site.

Kids really like to dress up for Halloween. They are always pretending to be things they like. For one day a year everyone else will play along.

When making a homemade costume, it is a good idea not to use too much makeup. If you do end up using a lot of makeup, try to get the kind that cleans off easily.

I have memories of being up for half the night having the silver robot paint scrubbed off my face. I still love the robot costume, but memories like that keep the experience from being perfect. They make makeup that cleans off easily.

Still, you want to make sure it doesn't come off onto their clothes during the night. A good costume needs to be accompanied by some good acting. When I was a robot, I did my best to always move and speak like a robot.

This helps cement the illusion. If you are making a Halloween costume for yourself, then these same rules apply. When you grow up, sometimes you want your costumes to look better.

This isn't always entirely necessary. People respect a homemade costume. You just need to make it look good. If you are going to go to your work party as a robot, you need to be able to pull it off.

Don't just walk in wearing a box. Walk in wearing a very robot looking box, and walk in like a robot. It's all about having fun.

If you can sew, then your options for costume making are almost endless. You just need to pick out the right fabric. You can find patterns for many different costumes over the internet.

Halloween is one of the most fun times of the year. If you planning on making your own costume, then I hope some of these ideas have helped give you some inspiration. Homemade Halloween costumes can create the best memories.
