Best Indie Music Releases for Early 2011
Indie Albums of Early 2011
Though I recently discussed the decline in popularity of the album in a recent article (The Death of The Album), that doesn't mean that the album is an obsolete art form as of yet. Â Several albums are being issued in 2011 that may hold somewhat of a redemption factor for the musical album. Â Indie music is having several releases that are highly anticipated and guaranteed to be good. Â I suggest that you take a chance to listen to all of these early 2011 indie music releases when they come out. Â These are the best indie music releases of early 2011 and they will not disappoint.Â
The Decemberists: The King Is Dead - This album was released on January 17th 2011, and is absolutely wonderful. Â Rather than following the concept album route that the Decemberists had done with The Hazards of Love, The King is Dead is filled with stand alone tracks that are wonderful. Â The album hit the number 1 spot in sales for the week on January 26th. Â It is one of the best indie music album releases for early 2011.
Iron & Wine: Kiss Each Other Clean - Iron & Wine's fourth studio album was released on January 25th, 2011. Â The album is filled with catchy songs, wonderful musicianship, and excellent lyrics from songwriter Sam Beam. Â I suggest this release, as it is one of my favorite indie music releases so far in early 2011.
Bright Eyes: The People's Key - Prolific songwriter Conor Oberst departed from The Mystic Valley Band and recorded another album with his longest lasting music outfit Bright Eyes. Â The album drops the country/Americana style that Oberst had been shifting towards to pick up a more rock/synth style. Â The album is currently streaming for free on NPR, and will be until the album's release date of February 15th. Â The People's Key is guaranteed to be one of the best indie albums of early 2011.
A Hawk and a Hacksaw: Cervantine - This album by former Neutral Milk Hotel Drummer (and current accordianist) Jeremy Barnes and violinist Heather Trost is set to be released on March 8th 2011. Â The predominantly instrumental tracks by A Hawk and a Hackasaw are very captivating, mainly sounding like traditional Turkish and Eastern European music. Â This will be one of the best indie music releases for early 2011.
The Mountain Goats: All Eternals Deck - This release is the prolific John Darnielle's 18th studio album as The Mountain Goats. Â Unlike the last release (The Life of The World To Come), which was softer and more piano driven, All Eternals Deck is supposed to be heavier. Â Be sure to check out this album on its March 29th, 2011 release date. Â It will definitely be one of the best indie music releases for 2011.
All of these albums will definitely be some of the top indie music albums of early 2011, and I highly recommend them. Â Though I only listed 5 albums, there are several more indie music albums of early 2011 that are going to be wonderful without a doubt. 2011 will be a great year for indie music releases.
