I Heart My Kindle!

For a book lover, the Kindle is a dream gadget.  It makes it possible to carry all of your favorite books with you, wherever you go!  If you're like me, then you may even be reading multiple books at the same time.  I used to have to lug around 2 books in my car, so I could switch back and forth, but now I can have all may favorite books, plus a thick bible, all in a thin-line device which will easily fit in my purse.  Divine, really.

The one thing that kind of surprised me about the Kindle was that the screen needed a light.  I mean, I knew that the screen wasn't back lit, because I had read it, and the whole "no-eye-strain" thing was one of the selling points.  But I think, because it's an electronic device, I just somehow assumed that I wouldn't need a light to read at night or in a dim room.  But you do!

So I set out to find the best Kindle cover with light that I could, that would work the best with my new device.

What are my options for a light for my e-Reader?

Basically, if you need light for your reader device, you have 2 options.

1. A Kindle Cover with Light

2. A clip-on light made for e-readers

The covers with an integrated light are nice because they are like an all-in-one accesory for the Kindle.  They are a carrying case, protection for your device, plus a light so that you will be ready to read in any situation.  The downside is that your device must remain in the cover at all times to guarantee these benefits.  That means your Kindle will be a bit bigger and heavier, but not by much.

The nice things about the clip on light are how small and light it is, and the portability. It definetly adds less bulk to your device, and is designed to be only used when needed, which is likely only part of the time that you use your device, unless you are an exclusively nightime reader. (Twilight?)

The Kindle Lighted Leather cover,

Made By Amazon, Exclusively for the Kindle

The Kindle cover with light made by amazon is, understandably, the best-selling lighted cover on the market.  It only goes to reason that the manufacturer of the e-reader would best be able to design an accessory for it's own device.  It's like the iPod accessories made by Apple itself, as opposed to all the off-brand after-market devices: they may be a bit cheaper, but they just don't work as well!

This Amazon cover has incredible ratings- like, 4.7 start out of 5 over 1500 reviews-- if you frequent amazon.com, you know that this is an incredible rating.

My favorite thing about this cover is that it draws the power for the light from your Kindle device - there are no other batteries or sources of power to fool with or remember to change.  It's made of leather, and also comes in 4 swanky covers: Black, Brown, Green, and Purple.

If you are just looking for a cheap case that has a light in it, then this is the best bet for you.  No, it's not the premium case made by amazon, but it has decent reviews (4 out of 5 over 225+ reviews) and fair quality.

One thing to note is that even though the title of the listing states that it is leather, it is not actually leather, but an imitation leather.  It does not have the buttery smooth feeling that you would expect with a leather accessory.

The main downside of this device over the Amazon-manufactured option is that the light requires separate batteries instead of drawing it's power directly from the Kindle.

Extra Bright Clip On Kindle Light

If you don't really need or want a case (maybe you already have a case, but just want a light), then a clip on kindle light may be exactly what you are looking for.  This model has very good reviews (4.5 out of 5) and is a best selling clip on e-reader light on amazon.com.

It uses LED bulbs, and requires 3 "AA" batteries.

Belkin is a good brand, well-known for quality products, so if I were in the market to try a clip-on Kindle light, this is the model that I would lean towards purchasing.  It features an easily-adjustable long neck, and the neat feauture of folding up into itself for compact storage.

You could get a Kindle PaperWhite.

The Kindle Paperweight has a patented built in light - that means, if you upgrade to this device, you won't need to worry about clip on lights, lighted cases, etc etc.  This is one of the newest iterations of the Kindle line, and it is one that I am personally very excited about.  I can't wait to upgrade my device to one of these.

Supposedly, it has an 8 week battery life, which makes it all the more appealing to me!

Which Kindle light solution is best for you?

Ultimately, it is a balance of cost, convenience, portability, and of course, personal preference.  I love my Kindle e-Reader, don't you?
