Dell Inspiron 1545 - The Dell Inspiron 1545 needs no introduction because its sales speak for itself. This 15.6-inch notebook is one of the most popular and highest-selling products of its kind, and not just for those attending schools and universities. The Dell Inspiron 1545 has been available for several years and has long been seen as a top contender in the running for the best laptops for college students, even now in 2010 and 2011. Not only is it an amazing notebook computer, but it's also pretty affordable and can be bought for under $500.

Toshiba Satellite L455 - I have reviewed the Toshiba Satellite in a couple of my other articles and it's funny how it keeps popping up, but they definitely earn it. There are two main types to look for, and both of them can be found for under $500 with a little research, and both could be considered the best laptops for college students based on their innovative features. What makes them different is one has an Intel Celeron processor while the other has an Intel Pentium, but a few of the cool things they have in common are reliability, durability, and a Windows 7 operating system.

Compaq Presario CQ61 - We have come to our final contender for the best laptops for college students under $500 and it's the classic Compaq Presario, the CQ61 models to be precise. The Compaq Presario built a solid reputation for itself for many years before 2010 and 2011 as a high-quality desktop computer; but the notebooks have followed suit and are making a name for themselves as the best laptops for college students.

With the Compaq Presario CQ61, you can have all the things you love in a notebook computer for an affordable price. That is because these come with budget processors made by AMD, like the Sempron and the Athlon II. Would you mind buying a Apple MacBook for me? All I ask for is one. I don't have a job right now. I used it during a college class, and the Macs are splendid. I don't want to go back to PCs.

Good information. I had a Compaq a few years ago, the screen went out within 6 months of buying it, but they amazed me with their support. They had it picked up from my office the same day I called and it was delivered back to my office in two days. (Picked up Tuesday, delivered fixed on Thursday) That is great service.
