Best Man Wedding Speeches - Tips on How to Make it Memorable

By Edited Apr 24, 2015 0 0

Weddings are a time of joy and celebration. The big wedding ceremony is usually immediately followed by a traditional wedding reception, where friends and family gather together to have fun and celebrate the lives of the new married couple.

As with most traditional receptions, there are usually a series of speeches that are given by the wedding party, usually by the maid of honor and the best man in particular. If you're a best man in an upcoming wedding, you should be prepared to give a speech at the reception.

The pressure of knowing you have to deliver a speech in front of a crowd can already be enough stress, but what if you don't even know what to say? What if you've never written a wedding speech (or any type of speech, for that matter)? If you're in a situation where you're unsure of what to write or what to do, don't fret - I'm about to share a few tips with you to help you deliver the best and most memorable wedding speech on the big day!

What To Write - The Content of the Speech

When it comes to best man wedding speeches, obviously the content needs to be strong and will generally start off aimed towards the groom. Some ideas to write about: mention how you and the groom met or tell a funny story about the you and the groom (something appropriate - remember, this will be in front of family and friends of not only the groom, but of the bride, too). You also want to tie in the groom's new wife into the speech as well, such as mentioning how you met her and maybe speak of things you all did together or how you knew that she was the right one for the groom. These are just a few ideas to get your creative juices flowing.

The Length - How Long Should it Be?

You don't want a short wedding speech, but you also don't want a long one, either. Your wedding speech should be anywhere from 3 to 5 minutes in length. Anything shorter and you may not really have a chance to say anything, whereas anything longer will lose the attention span of your audience. By keeping it within that 3 to 5 minute mark, you'll have enough time to say what you want and hold the audiences attention.

Jokes, One-Liners and Quotes

To add some fun and substance in your speech, use any appropriate jokes, popular one-liners or quotes. This adds some uniqueness to your speech and will make it interesting and fun to listen to. By mixing things up a bit, you can be sure your speech will stand out and last in the memory of everyone who attended the reception.

These are just a few tips you can use to craft your best man wedding speech. Just remember to stay calm. There is no need to worry about any pressure, so have fun with it and you'll be just fine!
