Looking for the best men's sunglasses for 2012? Well step right this way. I have thoroughly researched hundreds of pairs of stylish new releases for this year as well as classic favorites to show what any self-respecting dude should be protecting his eyes with this summer.
I've tried to make sure there's something for everyone in terms of looks, and although all of those featured are quality sun specs they aren't in the outrageously expensive category either -- hopefully there's something for everyone. Let's take a look...
Ray Ban Aviators
I feel the need, the need for some Ray Ban Aviators! Yeah baby, Top Gun style returns in 2012 - it's been 26 years since its release would you believe. Well eighties retro style is coming back in a big way in loads of trends this year and the world of sunglasses is no exception.
What's not to love about a classic pair of Aviators? OK, so these are going to look super cool wherever you wear them, but let's be honest in that they don't give you complete wrap around protection, and despite what Tom Cruise might have lead you to believe in that there film, they aren't great for the action men amongst you. Great for posing though. And of course you get style that will last for years to come.
Try tracking some down in vintage outlets to save yourself the price of a new pair.

Oakley Fives Squared Sunglasses
In complete contrast to the classic Ray Bans above, here we have the sporty Oakley Fives Squared sunglasses. They have enough different style features to those we've seen before with Oakley while still keeping that definite big O vibe we've come to know and love.
I like them because they aren't too outrageous like some of the Oakley looks can be, but still scream obvious quality and style. You have a great build quality and all round protection for your little peepers, so these babies don't just look good they deliver on performance too. They are also super comfortable to wear and are suitable for wearing when doing your sporty thang too. Bring on the sun's rays and these shades will deliver everytime.
Technology in sunglass lenses improves all the time, which is why a lot of the hot glasses this year will feature polarized lenses. This technology makes sure to fight glare as well as unwanted bright light and makes sure that you benefit from improved vision - oh yeah sunglasses don't just look good ya know! This also means that they are a particular favorite when participating in sport and are especially good sunglasses for fishing as they fight the glare from the water but still let you spot that catch.
This pair is particularly cool as it features this new polarizing tech, but has a touch of that 80s retro feel, looking a bit like a sturdier pair of aviators. Being D&G they retail for around $185 so they aren't the cheapest out there, but you are certainly getting high tech with a strong look. There are plenty of other Dolce models out there with the polarizing tech but with a smaller price tag, if this isn't a pair that grabs you.
XS Sport Wrap TR90
These XS Sport TR90 sunglasses are probably the hottest of the bunch for... well a whole bunch of reasons! Gold and metallic looks are very hot right now, and this is a good way to go for men who don't feel the need for as much bling as the ladies might. They have a striking appeal and come in different color options so you can go for the classic combo of black and metallic or you can whoop things up a bit, depending on your style.
As the name suggests, these are a great all round pair for playing sport, and the wraparound design means that your eyes are protected all the way.
The best thing about these sunglasses though is the price. The regular retail price to keep your eyes shaded is around 50 dollars but you can pick a pair up from Amazon for a fraction of the price.
VonZipper Kickstand Sunglasses
Bright colors for women's sunglasses are going to big news in 2012, and this is a great in-between model that allows the guys to be trendy and fashionable too, without having to go for neon pink.
Von Zipper kickstand glasses make the list although I appreciate they aren't going to be a favorite with everybody. They are quite a striking pair that have a lot of visual appeal and color, so if you want to draw admiring looks for your choice of eyewear then this the pair for you. However if you are content to just be laidback and cool then there are loads of other choices that might better suit.
There are several reasons that make this pair a standout choice though. The price is a reasonable 90 dollars to begin with, it's a style that suits most face shapes, it's lightweight but offers a good build quality, and you can order in a variety of sizes and colors too, so you can choose something that is just right for you. For your reference the pair pictured are tortoise frames with bronze lenses.
