Recently I came across a pie recipe that is delicious and I want to share it with you, and how you can make it with a couple of variations. This is one of those quick desserts that you can make in under an hour.

It involves one of my favorite flavors, peanut butter, however this pie recipe actually tastes like the Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup Ice Cream you can buy in grocery stores.

When my family made it recently, it was so similar in taste to that ice cream that I thought they got the recipe off the box, similar to the way the Rice Crispy Treats started on the side of Rice Crispy cereal boxes. However, I was shown the recipe in a booklet made by the members of a church that was given to them over 30 years ago, so it has been around long before Reese’s started marketing their own ice cream. So this may not be new to some of you, but it was to me, and I suspect that it will be for many others.

This peanut butter pie is simple to make and can be prepared in minutes, although you will need to let it freeze for a few hours for the best result.

Ingredients

Here are the only ingredients you will need:

  • 3 oz package of cream cheese at room temperature
  • 1 cup of confectioners’ sugar
  • 1 cup of creamy peanut butter
  • ½ cup of milk
  • 9 ounces of Cool Whip
  • Graham cracker pie crust
  • Pillsbury Milk Chocolate Frosting (optional)

As you can see from some of these ingredients, this pie is going to be loaded with calories, but there are ways to reduce the load by using skim milk and non-fat Cool Whip. We used the regular stuff and it was great, but I will be going to the gym a lot this week to burn it off. However, sometimes you just have to splurge.

Preparation

To prepare, start by blending 1 cup of smooth peanut butter and ½ cup of milk on medium until it is smooth and creamy. Next, stir in 9 ounces of Cool Whip and blend about a minute until everything is well-blended.

Pour the entire mixture into a prepared graham cracker pie crust. You can buy the pre-made versions at the grocery store, or you can make your own pie crust in pan. However, go the easy route and this pie will be ready in minutes.

Once the mixture has been put in the pie crust, place the pie container in the freezer for a couple of hours before serving. It is great to serve it as is without any chocolate.

However, if you want to recreate the Reese’s peanut butter taste in the pie, you need a chocolate topping and here is the easiest way to do it.

Mix ½ can of Pillsbury Milk Chocolate Frosting with about 2 tbsp. of warm water and spread over the entire frozen pie. Allow it to cool in the freezer before serving.

Another option is to simply add chocolate chip morsels on top if you think the pie will be too rich with the chocolate covering.

After sitting in the freezer for a couple of hours, it is ready to eat. Enjoy.

sounds yummy. I cook peanut paste biscuits for our dog and he loves them. If we give him a selection of biscuits he always chooses the P/nut ones first.

Peanut butter pie ties with sweet potato pie and pecan pie as my 3 out of 4 favorite pies (can't tell you my fave: this is a family-friendly site, you do the math). Again, the PB pie is something I can only find rarely in a restaurant and NEVER in a store. Thanks for the recipe! Thumb's up for the mouthwatering goodness here!
