Adidas, Asics, and Mizuno Round Out The Top Choices

Now that the damn snow is finally melting and the sidewalks and trails are exposed, it's time to get back into the swing of things - and run!

Over the years I have tried out various brands and shoe types, and find that there are plenty of options to suit the specific need you might be looking for.  Let's take a look at some of the best picks for spring 2014.

Adidas Supernova Sequence 6

If you walk on your the outside part of your foot, sometimes called an "out-step" then these might be the best shoes that you can purchase.  Especially good if you have a wider type of foot, the Adidas Supernova Sequence 6 adapts the ground to ensure the smoothest run possible. They have a great range of motion and provide maximum comfort.

I find this to be a good race type shoe.  They are quite durable and if you are running over tough terrain and have a wider foot, these can help you keep your balance.

Asics-Gel Kayano 20

I have been using Asics-Gel since I was a wee lad, running with this type of shoe from 4th grade until the present day.  I find this line to be easily one of the most comfortable and form fitting running shoe you can buy.

This 20th anniversary model sports "ASICS FluidFit upper technology that combines multi-directional stretch mesh with stretch reinforcements that adapt to the athlete's foot, creating a truly customized glove-like fit."  Again, I emphasize the extreme comfort with this one.  It can be slightly on the pricer side as compared to other shoes that boast the same technology, but as the saying goes, "you pay for what you get."

If you find yourself suffering from occasional pain from running, this might be the shoe for you.  I often had heel pain or general discomfort from overtraining, and after switching to this shoe I found relief.  Not quite as light if you are more of an all out sprinter, but still worth it if you need comfort.

Mizuno Wave Inspire 10

This is a sub 10-ounce shoe that manages to provide unbelievable support and cushioning while still managing to be flexible.  For anyone who has tried out shoe after shoe, this is tough combination to pull off.

If you are more of a "fleet-footed" strong sprinter/finisher, this shoe is exactly what you need. Although lightweight, they still offer durability and can take you through a marathon if that's what you're into running these days.  As I mentioned before, this lightweight shoe is incredibly form fitting and will provide an advantage if you are the kind of person (like me) who absolutely loves to turn on the jets over the final quarter mile of a race.  A great choice for the minimalist runner.

Some people say I am usually saving up to0 much gas for the end of a race, but I play to my strengths and I try to wear a shoe that complements my style.
