The SNES revolutionized the video gaming industry with the integration of its 16-bit improved graphics, gameplay, and sound; it was a large step up from its NES predecessor. SNES was a big hit at the time of its release, and is still played by people currently. It released a large amount and variety of games, and many of which were good; however, there are only a limited few that were good enough to be put on the list of the best SNES games of all time. The games on this list were the most amazing ones for the SNES in that their gameplay, controls, story line, and difficulty were the best that the SNES had ever seen. 10. Final Fantasy II

8. Donkey Kong Country

Donkey Kong Country was a game that was considered a "must have" for anybody with a SNES, and for that reason can be found on the list of the best SNES games of all time. It provided a story line that was long enough to keep a video gamer busy for months, but also controls that were easy enough to master; this created a game that was immediately addictive, and allowed the gamer to stay interested for many months. 7. Super Metroid

This game does not have a single feature that makes it so great, but rather the greatness is in the entire game as a whole. The idea of moving an armoured individual around, and shooting and destroying everything in sight intrigues a lot of video gamers; it allows them to imagine themselves being in a world where they have these unbelievable powers. It was the imaginarily realistic concept of the characters, powers, and worlds in Super Metroid that brought it onto the list of the best SNES games of all time.

6. Earthbound

This circa 1995 RPG was unique in its kind, and nearly nothing has ever come close to competing with it to this day; its unique qualities and trend setting ability in the video game world allow it to fall just before the halfway point on the list of the best SNES games of all time. In this amazing game, you get to control the character Ness through the various levels and worlds, and help him solve and navigate through many puzzles. The amazing thing about this game is that the puzzles were challenging enough to give an adult difficulty, but easy enough to allow a child to solve them with enough time and effort. What keeps people constantly playing this RPG is the fact that you could significantly increase the power than Ness had possessed, to compete with the increasingly powerful enemies that he would find in the dungeons. This RPG set a trend in the video game industry that hundreds of video games have followed, and for that reason is on the list of the best SNES games of all time.

5. Chrono Trigger

Chrono Trigger is considered to be one of the best RPGs and best games to ever be released for the SNES, and has made it to the halfway point on this list of the best SNES games of all time. One of the main things that allow this game to rank so well on this list is the control that you possess over the character named Chrono, the world that he resides in, and the battles that he participates in. All of the battles are controlled as you can see the enemies on the screen, and none of them are randomly generated; this allows the video game player to have complete control over their pathway in the game. At times they may be able to battle many times to level up their character, but at other times they may be able to go through the story without getting into a single battle if they desire. Chrono Trigger makes its way onto the list of the best SNES games of all time by allowing the player to have complete control over the main character in the game.

4. Super Mario RPG: Legend Of The Seven Stars

This Super Mario RPG is still considered to be one of the best Super Mario games to ever be released for any video game console; with well over 20 games currently released that is quite a big recommendation. This game holds a high spot on the list of the best SNES games of all time through its creative gameplay that was well ahead of its time. The controls are fairly basic, yet still use every single button on the SNES controller; furthermore, the gameplay, graphics, and classic Super Mario theme songs follow the same great quality. In this game you control Mario, and guide him through the various levels and worlds to work your way through the story of the game to ultimately acquire all 7 of the stars. This game makes it onto the list of the best SNES games of all time by taking the basic concept of the Italian plumber by the name of Super Mario that was originally for the NES, and extending it to incorporate the 16-bit graphics and sound capability that the SNES has.

It provided a story line that was interesting and would keep the video gamer busy for months, graphics that would drop the jaw of anybody playing the game, sound effects that were never heard before, weapon upgrades that would keep you busy nearly forever, and character upgrades that would keep you intrigued until the game's end. All of these features, in addition to the fact that it was based on the classic Zelda storyline that people have loved for years, is what ultimately gave it the number one spot on this list of the best SNES games of all time!

All of these games on this list of the best SNES games of all time could easily be considered to be staple games for anybody that plays the SNES video game console. Although there are many good games for the video game system, these can easily be considered the best. They all combine one or more of the best features in one area, either gameplay, sound, graphics, ease of use, or replay ability. Although all of these games may have taken more time and effort to produce, release, and promote them; it has definitely paid off as they have all been considered the best SNES games of all time! WHAT! No Mortal Kombat!?!? That was the only game I played on SNES for a really long time. Nice list otherwise!
