Best Teeth Whitening Trays

By Edited Nov 13, 2013 0 0

Using teeth whitening trays at home is one of the easiest and most effective ways to whiten your teeth without having to resort to expensive and time consuming visits to the dentist. Using trays is more effective than other at home methods because trays usually contain the strongest bleaching agents and give your teeth a much more even bleaching than other methods do. They are also relatively easy to use, very convenient, and come with very few possible side effects.

The Best Teeth Whitening Trays at a Glance

Teeth whitening gel trays are fairly simple to use. They are composed of a tray and a whitening gel that is put inside of them. This whitening gel is most often made out of hydrogen peroxide, but concentrations of the active ingredient may vary. Considering the teeth whitening prices involved in other options, trays to whiten your teeth are one of the most cost effective ways to get a brighter smile.

The trays come in three different styles. The first type of tray you can get is a disposable that you use once and done. Because you only use it once, the gel come preapplied to the tray. This has the advantage of giving you the same amount of gel spread over an even surface every time. However, this tray is not fitted to your teeth or mouth at all. This can make the tray more difficult to keep in place and may cause some of the gel to leak out onto your gums or even so that you swallow it. There is also a second type of disposable tray that is made out of a more durable rubber material. These aren't specifically made for your mouth, but they do generally fit better than single use trays. With these trays you insert the gel yourself for a set amount of time, usually a month or so., and then toss the tray once the treatment is done. The biggest downside of these trays is that since you apply the gel yourself you might not apply the gel as evenly.

The best solution for using trays is to find custom tooth whitening trays. These trays are fit to your mouth, so that gel doesn't spill out and so that you teeth get an even bleaching each time. The most common way of doing this is to go to the dentist to get him to custom fit the tray. This will cost you some money initially, but since you don't throw the tray out, you can keep it for a long period of time with only having to buy the bleaching agent. If you don't want to go to the dentist, a newer option is to find what is called a thermoforming whitening tray. These trays get soaked in boiling water for a few seconds to make them malleable. The tray is then put on your teeth and as it cools it hardens around your teeth to create a custom mold. This method may leak more gel through than a tray that you get molded at a dentist, but it is more cost-effective and is noticeably better than any removable trays.

Using Teeth Whitening Bleaching Trays

Teeth bleaching trays are an incredibly easy way to go about teeth whitening at home. Usually you should be able to simply follow the directions on the box without much problems. These are the general directions that most trays will give you

  2. Put the whitening agent in the tray
  3. Leave the tray in your mouth for the prescribed amount of time (usually no more than 15 to 30 minutes)

Precautions to Take

Teeth whitening trays are generally safe, but there are a few precautions that you need to take. First, make sure not to swallow any of the whitening agent. The hydrogen peroxide could irritate your stomach and cause other gastrointestinal problems. It the agent spills out of the tray, just make sure not to swallow it. The second major side effect of whitening trays is that you may experience inflamed gums. If your gums become inflamed you may want to consider switching to a weaker formula or brand. At the very least, take a few days off from using the whitening tray.

There are many different options for whitening trays and the best ones generally are custom molded. You can get this done at your dentist or you can do it yourself by using the thermomolded tray.
