Best Treadmill for the Elderly & Older People

By Edited Nov 13, 2013 0 0

When looking for a treadmill for the older person - as a priority you are after 'comfort', 'safety' & 'support' (for joints etc.), that's why in the following showcase of the 'best treadmills for the elderly' -- all the models featured have proven to 'more than' sufficiently accomodate in all three of these aspects. Hopefully, from the selection below -- you will find the perfect model & at the very least get a better understanding and idea as to what kind of treadmill you are after.

The TR 1200i Folding Treadmill By LifeSpan Fitness

This highly rated & award winning (also being my personal favourite) treadmill model offers comfort & support through its bio-mechanical suspension deck with 6 fitted elastomers -- offering essentially a cushioning mechanism to offer protection for your joints as well as improved recovery times (allowing you to go harder & longer, yet safer). Moreover, it is designed & engineered with 'safety' at the forefront -- from sturdy handle bars to a quick cap release that automatically shuts down the treadmill, if you feel suddenly the work out was getting out of hand.

It offers an extra large running deck (20 x 56 inches) that can be powered from just 0.5 mph which is obviously like just a very gentle stroll to that of 11 mph (more of a sprint) all from a 2.5 HP motor which also adjusts the incline level from 0 to 15 % (supporting a user weight capacity of 300 lbs). Also, the LCD console fitted on the treadmill is very easy to navigate & offers all the usual diagnostics (distance travelled, calories burned etc.) and fitness programs. You also are fitted with jack-in points so you can listen to music or an audio book through its speakers whilst working out. In all, this is a really great treadmill that you should be at the least just checking out -- to put it another way, it must be a best selling treadmill for a reason.

The T101-3 Treadmill by Horizon Fitness

Another award winning treadmill (rated by Treadmill Doctor as a Best Buy) - it offers a very comfortable deck platform to walk on through its general solid build to its 'perfectFlex' deck that utilises shock absorbers & suspension to provide low impact whilst running on your knees. It also has integrated fans, to keep you cool with a refreshing 'like' breeze whilst you are walking, running etc.

Like the TR1200i, it is also foldable and hence can be raised up to reduce the amount of space being utilised - so is rather practical for those who are space conscious too. As a treadmill in functionality terms, it doesn't offer the same capabilities as the TR1200i, but is more than sufficient for anyone who isn't looking to do intense work outs. Offering a less powerful 2.25 HP motor it allows a speed range from 0 to 10 mph (and 0 to 10% incline). The console details all your relevant stats etc. during the work out as well as a summary once you're done. A very decent model for those on a bit of a more restricted budget.

The F80 Foldable Treadmill by Sole Fitness

This is a premium model (so is a bit on the expensive side, but Hey! You are worth it) -- so offers you some of the best quality support (reducing impact on your joints by a huge 40% -- through its Cushion Flex Whisper Deck) comfort a treadmill can offer (literally built like a tank). It's main highlight is its huge running deck which measures 22" by 60" (integrated with a high torque motor with flywheels, meaning it can support heavy duty weights - up to a 375 pound user weight & is as sturdy as they come -- being practically vibration free, as well as being pretty silent in operation).

With a 'stream line' LCD control (extra large) display - operating a treadmill doesn't get much simpler and whilst you are working out the integrated message board details all your diagnostics & details (walking pace, heart rate etc.). You also have access to a huge range of fitness programs from heart endurance to control zones. This particular model is backed by an industry leading standard -- where the frame, motor & deck are backed by an entire life time, the electronics for five years and any labour costs for two years -- these things are built to last!

The TR4000i Folding Treadmill by LifeSpan Fitness

This model is essentially an upgrade to the TR1200i in that it provides you with just that extra bit of support for your joints as well as making it a fair bit more comfortable to run on -- through it being fitted with an extra 2 elastomers (so 8 in total) & an extra 1/4 inch phenolic depth to the deck.

But, apart from this the model largely remains the same (a few other improvements to note are its top speed can now reach 12 mph, through an improved 3.25 HP motor as well as coming with a chest strap for heart readings). Basically, an option for those who are keen on the TR1200i model, however are looking for something that provides them with just that bit 'extra', when it comes stability & support etc.
