Best Tricycle for Toddlers and Parents

By Edited Jun 7, 2016 0 0

Are you a parent or grandparent looking for the best tricycle for toddlers? If so there is one thing you should ask yourself before you buy and that is, what is the best tricycle for me? Now at this point you might be laughing and thinking to yourself what is this guy talking about I’m not going to be riding this thing my kids or grandkids are. Well that is true but who do you think is going to be pushing those kids around on that new trike? Take it from this dad of two, you are! The simple fact is that most toddlers will not learn to peddle a tricycle on their own until they are at least three years old. So you should go ahead and count on being the one back there pushing. And guess what most tricycles are made for the riding not pushing which means you’re going to be all bent over trying to reach a part of this tricycle trying to push. And trust me your back is going to get tired a lot faster than your kids. So what my point with all of this is, is that you need a tricycle that can not only be ridden but one that can be easily pushed as well. And yes before you ask they do exist and even better there are some models that even allow you to steer from behind using the attached pushing handle. Sounds great doesn’t it! If this sounds like a better option than the tricycle you had pictured in your head then you will want to finish the rest of this article.

So now that I’ve got you interested lets take a look at a few models that you may want to consider. The first is the Radio Flyer Classic Red Tricycle with Push Handle. This is the classic style steel framed tricycle with rubber tires that every one knows only it’s been made a little smaller. One other difference is the adjustable push handle that is attached to the back of the trike under the seat. The chrome push handle which matches the handle bars has three positions to allow you to adjust it to a comfortable height and it can be remove when it is no longer needed or for transporting it in a vehicle. It is recommended for kid’s age’s two to four.

Another model you might like is the Radio Flyer Steer and Stroll Trike. This tricycle has a few more features than the previous model best of which is the ability to not only push the trike but to steer it too. The push handle on this model has been upgraded and resembles the handle on a stroller. It has four adjustable positions instead of three and can be removed as well. It also has freewheeling pedals that allow coasting so that the child doesn’t have to peddle the whole time they are being pushed. Another great feature of this model is the adjustable seat that allows the trike to grow with your child. It also has a covered storage bin behind the seat and a bell on the handle bars.

Now the previous two trikes are nice but the Schwinn Easy Steer Tricycle is probably the best you can get. This trike comes with many of the same options has the other models but Schwinn improved on the design. And after one look you will know why I think this is the best push trike available. Not only is it made with a heavy duty steel frame the Easy Steer also has a patented concealed steering system. This system is way more advanced than the setups on other trikes and is unlikely if not impossible to have the steering problems that some of the cheaper models eventually develop once they begin to wear. The removable push/steering handle makes it very easy to control the trike and requires very little effort to turn. Other features I like about this tricycle are the high backed seat that has a three point seat belt to securely hold your child in place. This is especially nice for young toddlers that have a hard time hold on. There are also foot pegs for there little feet right below the seat which keeps their feet from dragging or daggling when they are not on the peddles. Also the wheels are made of a hard rubber that keeps the trike from sliding and the solid rims keep little body parts like feet and fingers from getting caught. All in all this is a very nice first bike for anyone!
