When we travel to Las Vegas it feels as if we always set up a budget and in the end that budget is not kept once we are there. People reach for the bank account or the credit card they said they would not touch because they feel as if a big win will happen the next time they pull on the lever. As you may have already discovered if you have played in Las Vegas, those feelings that a win will happen soon do not become reality very often, so it is better to quit while you are not so far behind. Here are some ways to make it easier to stick to your budget.
Don’t Expect Big Wins
Once in a while someone will win big in Las Vegas, but that is the exception not the rule. That does not mean that it is impossible that you will win at a casino, but it does mean that it is highly improbable. Most people lose some money, some will break even and a few will win because that is the way the casinos make money. The advantage is always on the house’s side, so do not think that you will make the money for your mortgage on the tables or at the slot machines. There is a chance that you will hit a winning combination in the next pull, but it is more likely that you will not; Slot machines are known as one-arm bandits for a reason.
Keep An Eye On Your Watch
The next time you walk into a casino take a look at the walls. You will notice that there are no watches or time telling devices around. That is because it is a lot easier for you to stay at the tables if you do not realize how long you have played for. Make sure that you always have your watch with you and that you look at it every once in a while. You will find that time goes fast when you are having fun, especially inside a casino. The longer you play the more likely it will be that you will lose.
Set up a time at which you will get up from your seat no matter what. If you are on a streak and you do not want to get up yet then get up the moment that you lose the next pull or the next game. If you do that then you will not tell yourself that you left on a hot streak, which some will believe they did even though it is all a game of chance like a slot machine.
Do Not Take A Lot Of Free Drinks
Drinks are expensive so it would make sense that if you can get them for free then you should. The problem with that way of thinking is that a person who has consumed a lot of alcohol will not always make the right decision. Your alcoholic drinks (and others) will be free while you are playing, but make sure to order soft drinks and water too so that you stay alert. Also remember that even though the drinks are free you should still tip the wait staff at the casino; that way you will get the drinks that you want when you want them, but be ready to say “no thanks” to the drinks as well.
One of the things that casinos and other businesses in Vegas do well is to make their customers feel welcome. They attract customers using coupons which you can find on the street, at the airport, and your room. Those coupons will give you discounts on souvenirs, gaming, shows, drinks and food. These coupons are a great way to increase your budget without doing much. The show coupons can also help with distractions so that you can spend some time away from the casino floor. If you know that you have tickets to a show then you will be more likely to get up to have dinner and get ready for it.
Go For A Walk
When you go for a walk you can enjoy a lot of the Las Vegas sights that you would miss if you were gambling all the time. There are plenty of things to see in Las Vegas; there is no other place in the world where you can see a pyramid and enjoy a ride through Venice style canals a few minutes later. The fountains of the Bellagio and the Volcano at the Mirage, and even the Fremont Street Experience are shows that you can enjoy without paying a penny, so why not get the most out of them. Going for a walk is also a great opportunity to do some people watching, and even meet a few of them if you are on the strip or close to Fremont Street.
If you do not feel like walking then take the bus on the strip. The Deuce is a double-decker bus that can take you anywhere on Las Vegas Boulevard all the way downtown. You can buy a two-hour pass, a day pass or a three-day pass. The best option is the day pass because the traffic is heavy so it can take a long time to get from one place to another, and besides it is fun to ride especially if your feet feel tired.
Be Very Organized
Finally, you need to stay very organized with your budget. That means that you should set up the money you will spend on food, gambling, entertainment and transportation. If you are having trouble staying within your playing limits then when you leave the room only take the money that you will spend that day. Do not take any extra money or your credit and debit cards. Some hotels have a safe that you can use and you should leave anything that you will not spend there.
Do not borrow from tomorrow’s budget to make up for the money that you want to spend today. Keep in mind that tomorrow you may want to do the same thing and that is how some people end up spending more money than they want to. Get up and enjoy some of the Las Vegas sights you have nearby before you decide to play again.
