Best Window Treatments
If you are looking for a finished and decorative look for your rooms, you really should think about the type of window treatment would be best. Whether you decide on Plantation shutters, Venetian blinds or Roman Blinds will depend in part on the type of window you are treating and also on the overall look and décor of the room. No matter what you choose, any of those options will provide you with the privacy and protection from the sun that is needed for your living quarters.
Interior Plantation shutters have made a bit of a comeback of late, even to the point that they are becoming a very popular choice in the UK, where they first made their appearance in the 1980's. More and more people are choosing the classic style interior shutters. Broad slats are mounted inside a solid frame, and they swing out from the middle when opening. Depending on the material they are made from, most are great for using in warmer climates as air is able to freely flow through the slats, all the while giving protection from sunlight.
If you don't want to cover the entire window with shutters, another option is to install half-sized shutters, commonly referred to as café-style shutters. These shutters are installed on the bottom half of the window, providing privacy while allowing light to stream into the room unimpeded through the clear upper half of the window. Normally, Plantation shutters are installed on the inside of a window, and cover the glass window from the inside.
As the Plantation shutter can be a bit expensive, many people prefer to choose the cheaper Venetian blinds. The plus with Venetian blinds is that they can be completely closed through the use of a lever or cord on the side of the blinds, thus eliminating most of the light and sunshine from coming through the window. This is very advantageous in areas where you want to totally close out the light, such as in a bedroom for example. Alternatively you can control the amount of light that comes into the room simply by adjusting the slant on the actual slats themselves
Roman blinds are yet another alternative when it comes to window treatments. Normally Roman blinds are made from material or vinyl, rather than wood or plastic, though you can buy Bamboo Roman blinds. The fabric of the blind is flat when the blind is lowered, or is folded up in an accordion style when the blind is raised up to allow light in through the window.
