Every stamp collector is going to rely on an assortment of supplies. While you don't need each of these stamp collecting supplies to get started with this fun hobby, it is a good idea to add a few to your inventory over time. Here is a collection of some of the most useful stamp collecting supplies for beginners.

Stamp Album

Stamp albums are great for new collectors. Having a stamp album is an easy way to organize the stamps that you collect over time. You can find stamp albums that correspond to the type of stamp you are collecting. The right stamp album will provide you with a predetermined spot for each stamp in that collection. This will simplify stamp collecting because you will have a picture to reference. There are also blank stamp albums available if you wish to collect very specific stamps.

Supplemental Pages

Many stamp albums have supplemental pages that will allow you to increase the scope of your stamp collection. Some stamp albums will even provide you with yearly updates in the form of supplemental pages so you can keep your collection current.

Hinges

Every stamp collector will rely on hinges to organize their collection at some point in time. Hinges are a safe way to stick your stamps in an album without damaging the adhesive back.

Wax Paper

Often times stamp collectors will save the stamps they get on envelopes. In order to remove them from the paper envelope, stamps must be soaked in water. After the stamp has become detached from the envelope it must be removed from the water. You can place them on wax paper to dry without having to worry about them sticking.

Stamp Bags

One of the easiest ways to get a new stamp collection started is by investing in a stamp bag. You can find stamp bags at most hobby stores for a very reasonable price. Inside a stamp bag you will find roughly 100 stamps. There are usually different types of stamp bags to choose from so you will probably be able to locate one that suits your collection!

Magnifying Glass

It pays to get to know the details of your stamps. Sometimes this is hard to do if there is a postage mark across it or if the stamp is particularly old. With the help of a magnifying glass you will find it much easier to see the fine details of your stamps.

Price Guide

Investing in a price guide is useful for multiple reasons. First, most stamp collectors like to have an idea of what there collection is worth. A price guide will certainly help you evaluate and put an approximate price on your stamps. When you go to buy stamps for your collection it is also helpful to consult a price guide so you know if you are getting a good deal or not. Price guides are packed full of useful information for stamp collectors so they will also serve as a useful reference.
