When I cook pasta I usually get out my big old stainless steel pot, then fill it with water and bring to a boil and try and gently place the spaghetti in without breaking.  Once it is done I have my colander sitting the best I can in the sink and then with two hands I lift the heavy pot to the sink and pour, last time the colander tipped and the noodles ended up in the sink and I couldn’t steady it because both my hands were on this pot with steam in my face.  Not a pretty sight!

Pasta Pot with Strainer Lid That Locks In Place for Safety!

I finally found the pot that I believe to be the answer.  It doesn’t have to be used only for pasta; you can strain veggies, potatoes and more.  When I think of all the times I have had to pour off boiling water into a colander and with both hands on the pot, it can be hard to steady anything as the pasta used to suddenly lump out and tip it.

Bialetti Pasta Pot

This pot not only has a non stick inside but the handles do not heat up (my old pan did and I needed to use oven gloves as well as precariously pour boiling water into the colander and risk splashes).

It has an oval shape that somehow makes it easier to handle and sits well on the stove and also fits the long pasta which is good and comes in different colours so you could leave it sitting out on the stove as decor.

The lid locks so that you no longer have to fear straining pasta or potatoes.  I used to pour the pot into the sink with the lid partially on to strain potatoes, which was a dangerous way to do things.  It certainly makes it easier to cook anything that needs straining.

One Pot Pasta Recipe

You can also use this non stick pot to create one pot pasta dishes

Instead of having another pot around for the other ingredients try this sausage pasta recipe:

Cooked sausages sliced thinly

Pasta sauce (your favourite brand)

Chopped veggies (I used frozen)

Pasta of your choice

Water to cover

Parmesan cheese to garnish afterwards

Method:

Put everything in the pot except the pasta sauce (add afterwards)

Bring to a boil until pasta is tender, and now with the locked lid in place pour off the water.

Place back on stove and add pasta sauce and stir (don’t use metal utensils in a non stick pot) and heat up contents while stirring, and there you go!  Instant dinner add some parmesan cheese afterwards, sliced tomatoes and more.

You can totally add variety to this dish, if you use meat it is best if it is already cooked as it is not in the pot long, but I love that I am cooking the pasta and veggies in one pot, that can be easily drained.  I use frozen veggies for this recipe as I find they are just perfect when the noodles are done and different types of cooked sausages.

This way you are not straining two pots of boiling water and using a 3rd to heat up the sauce, and you simply reheat with the sauce afterwards all in the same pot.  This way the noodles don’t get cold.  (I have always found once they were strained and out of the pot and in the colander they got cold quickly)

Simplicity

My big goal when I downsized was to go for simplicity in every room, this includes the kitchen, so if I can get appliances or pots and pans that can do “double duty” and feel safer I am more likely to cook!  I tend to be clumsy when it comes to cooking.  I turn out great meals but there is usually a sink full of dishes and I am usually sporting a burn somewhere on my person!

Great Gift Idea

If you have a pasta lover on your list this year, or you just want to give a special gift.  You could purchase one of these online and then add a few extras on the inside such as nice pastas, sauces and more for a nice gift and to get them started using it.

A pasta pot with a strainer lid can be a lot safer to use too!
