Bible Verses About Judging Others: 10 Important Scriptures

By | Feb 20, 2011 | 2 Comments | Rating: 0

The word of God is clear on the topic of judging others. Christians are to be above all encouraging to one another. We are to spur one another along and not bring others down. It is hard to not fall into the trap of gossiping and judging others when they are not around. I fall into this trap myself. Please read these verses and ask God to allow you to be honest with yourself so you can improve on this important area of judging others.

 2 Timothy 4:1-5

I charge you in the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who is to judge the living and the dead, and by his appearing and his kingdom: preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, and exhort, with complete patience and teaching.  For the time is coming when people will not endure sound teaching, but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own passions, and will turn away from listening to the truth and wander off into myths. As for you, always be sober-minded, endure suffering, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry.

 Matthew 7:1-5

"Judge not, that you be not judged.  For with the judgment you pronounce you will be judged, and with the measure you use it will be measured to you. 3Why do you see the speck that is in your brother’s eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye? Or how can you say to your brother, 'Let me take the speck out of your eye,' when there is the log in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother’s eye.

 Romans 14:12-13

So then each of us will give an account of himself to God.  Therefore let us not pass judgment on one another any longer, but rather decide never to put a stumbling block or hindrance in the way of a brother.

 1 Corinthians 4:5

Therefore do not pronounce judgment before the time, before the Lord comes, who will bring to light the things now hidden in darkness and will disclose the purposes of the heart. Then each one will receive his commendation from God.

Luke 6:37

"Judge not, and you will not be judged; condemn not, and you will not be condemned; forgive, and you will be forgiven;

Colossians 3:13

bearing with one another and, if one has a complaint against another, forgiving each other; as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive.

James 4:11-12

Do not speak evil against one another, brothers. The one who speaks against a brother or judges his brother, speaks evil against the law and judges the law. But if you judge the law, you are not a doer of the law but a judge. There is only one lawgiver and judge, he who is able to save and to destroy. But who are you to judge your neighbor?

Galatians 5:14

For the whole law is fulfilled in one word: "You shall love your neighbor as yourself."

 John 7:24

Do not judge by appearances, but judge with right judgment."

Ephesians 4:29

Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear.

My prayer for you today is that God would work these judging other Bible verses into your heart. If you have any other great scriptures about judging others please add them to the comments so this may be a better resource for those that find it.

What Jesus was really saying was that if we are not going to judge with God's help then we should not judge for we would make grave mistakes. In the very chapter that He said "Judge not" He told us how to judge. So it has to be that we must not be judgmental and not judge without God's help or how else would be interpret the following Bible verses?:
Matthew 7:16 Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles?
Matthew 7:20 Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them.
John 7:24 Judge not according to the appearance, but judge righteous judgment.
1 Corinthians 6:2 Do ye not know that the saints shall judge the world? and if the world shall be judged by you, are ye unworthy to judge the smallest matters?
