Bicycle Seat Cushions
Many people around the world enjoy bicycling. From the dawn of the invention of the bicycle, people have had a love affair with it. Even when the tires were the size of huge wagon wheels, riding a bicycle was a pastime that many enjoyed.
One thing in particular that kept some people from riding bicycles is pain that they suffered in their bottom as a result of an improperly fitting bicycle seat. When a person rides a bicycle, there is a certain amount of friction between the person's inner thighs and the bicycle seat itself. This rubbing action often causes chafing, and raw spots in very uncomfortable locations. Many people who would otherwise enjoy riding bicycles for both pleasure an exercise, often give up the sport simply because of the pain that they experience due to a seat that doesn't fit them.
A couple of things that can help eliminate or at least minimize the pain are proper bicycle adjustment and the proper seat for their individual body type.
There are many different styles of bicycle seat cushions. Some are simply foam covered with the vinal cover. Others are made up of the spandex type material that covers space age gell padding. Others are made of leather with special padding in just the right places.
Many people who enjoy bicyling also enjoy attending sporting events. Much of the same type of cushining that goes into manufacturing bicycle seats goes into the manufacturing of bench cushions.
There are just as many different shapes of bicycle seats. The shape of should be an important consideration. While cushioning is important, this shape of the bicycle seat is often more important than what the seat is made out of. If the seat is too wide, it's much more likely that you will rub raw spots on the inside of your thighs while bicycling. A seat that is too narrow may end up causing the pain as well. A narrow seet the cause and undue amount of pressure in the groin area. Ideally a bicycle seat will support your weight on your pelvic bones . These bones are in different places in both women and men. Women have pelvic bones that are designed for childbearing. Because of this, their pelvic bones are spaced wider apart and mens.
If a man is to ride a bicycle with a seat that is designed for a woman hips, he is likely to end up with sores on the inside of his thighs because the seat will likely be too wide for his body shape. If a woman is to ride a bicycle with a seat that is designed for a man, she is likely to get sore as well.
So you can understand that the first that in choosing a bicycle seat is to choose one that fits the individual. Since our bodies are all unique, it's not possible to manufacture a simple one size fits all bicycle seat. Experts recommend that you get fitted for a bicycle seat at a professional bicycle shop. Since an ill fitting bicycle seat is the number one reason that people stop a riding, it makes sense that those who are serious about cycling spend a little bit of time and money to make sure that they have the right seat.

Good advice. I love riding but after more than 45 mintues on a bicycle I find there is insufficient padding. You can really feel it if you get on the bike the next day too!
