Biography and Filmography of Bradley Cooper

By Edited Jun 19, 2015 1 6

Bradley Charles Cooper was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in the United States on January 5, 1975.

Shortly after birth, he moved with his parents and older sister, Holly, to Jenkintown, Pennsylvania, where he spent the majority of his childhood and adolescence. His mother, Gloria worked for a local NBC affiliate and his father, Charles worked as a stockbroker for Merril Lynch.

Cooper attended Germantown Academy and worked at the Philadelphia Daily News part time. After graduating in 1993, he attended Villanova University for his freshman year. At the end of his freshman year, he transferred to Georgetown University and stayed for the remainder of his college years. In 1997, he graduated with honors with a BA in English. While in attendance at Georgetown, he learned French and spent time abroad as an exchange student in Aix-en-provence, France. In 2000, Cooper received an MFA in acting from the Actors Studio Drama School at The New School in New York City, New York. For his thesis at the Actor's Studio, he played the title character of John Merrick from "The Elephant Man." He claims that seeing the production TV is what had inspired him to become an actor in the first place. He had even traveled to London to research the part. He was rather obsessed about it. While Cooper was attending Actors Studio Drama School, he was in one episode of "Sex and the City." He played "Jake" in the episode "They Shoot Single People, Don't They?"

That guest role began his acting career. He made his film debut in the 2001 hit movie "Wet Hot American Summer" where he played "Ben." After the success of the film, he landed the role of "Will Tippin" on the television series "Alias." He left the hit show in 2003 for a short time, but returned a few times for guest appearances.

In 2006, Bradley Cooper married actress Jennifer Esposito. In May of 2007, Esposito filed for divorce.

After "Alias," Cooper went to star in a few TV movies, and also landed parts in cinema films such as "Wedding Crashers," "He's Just Not That into You," and "Case 39."

From 2009 to 2011, Bradley Cooper dated actress Renee Zellweger.

In 2009, Cooper starred in "The Hangover." "The Hangover" is perhaps the movie he is most known for. The movie grossed an astonishing $467 million worldwide on a comparatively small budget, sending Mr. Cooper into A-list status. "The Hangover II" was released in 2011 and earned over $580 million world wide at the box office. Bradley Cooper was presented with the GQ UK "International Man of the Year" award in September 2011. On November 16, 2011, People magazine named Bradley Cooper the "Sexiest Man Alive."

From December 2011 to January 2013, it is rumored that Bradley Cooper was dating actress Zoe Saldana.

In 2012, he starred in "Silver Linings Playbook" alongside Robert De Niro. His performance earned him an Academy Award nomination for Best Actor.

In 2013, "The Hangover III" was released and did very poorly at the box office. Critics tore apart the movie because of the "darker storyline" which was completely different to the feel of the previous two films.

In the same year, Cooper starred alongside Jennifer Lawrence, Amy Adams, and Christian Bale in "American Hustle." His performance in this movie got him an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor.

Bradley Cooper is set to star in a film called "American Sniper." It is about United States sniper Chris Kyle. The movie will be directed by Clint Eastwood. Cooper is also set to star in a film directed by Cameron Crowe and it will also feature Emma Stone, Rachel McAdams, and Bill Murray.

Would you agree that he's like a younger version of Brad Pitt - an actor whose talent is sometimes threatened to be overshadowed by his dazzling good looks? I wouldn't be surprised to see Cooper win an Oscar one day.

I couldn't actually remember much of Brad Pitt's early work off the top of my head - I had to look it up. I think Bradley Cooper has done the right thing in getting some quality work early on - Silver Linings Playbook and American Hustle - early on, which could help him from being pigeonholed. And yes, I can see him winning an Oscar too, as long as he keeps doing films like those as well.

A great early movie of Pitt's is "Kalifornia," in which he gave a terrifying performance as a killer. It's interesting to see the high-profile films and television shows Cooper appeared in before he hit it big. I always enjoy seeing big name stars in roles they took before they were famous. What about you?

I have heard of Kalifornia, but I don't think I've actually seen it.

I spend quite a lot of time on IMDb, and it is interesting to see what actors have appeared in before you knew who they were. In this case, and in particular, finding out that he was in The Wedding Crashers and Yes Man.

I enjoyed your article about Bradley Cooper. He is a talented actor. I enjoyed learning that he graduated from Georgetown, as my oldest granddaughter is now a senior at Georgetown. Bradley graduated with honors, but my granddaughter has been chosen for Phi Beta Kappa since she is in the top 2% of her class. We expect big things from her also. Great article!

It also took a while for his career to really take off, which may help in the future.
