One of the highest-profile actors today is Channing Tatum, he not only was chosen as the Sexiest Man Alive by People Magazine in 2012, but he and his wife Jenna Dewan-Tatum recently became parents to their first child, a baby girl they named Everly Tatum, who was born on May 31, 2013, in London, England.
Tatum was born Channing Matthew Tatum on April 26, 1980 in Cullman, Alabama to parents Kay and Glenn Tatum; Tatum also has a sister named Paige. The family later moved to Wetumpa, Alabama, before making the move to Mississippi in 1986, where he grew up living in a rural setting near the bayous on the banks of the Mississippi River.
Following high school, Channing Tatum was awarded a football scholarship from Glenville State College in Glenville, West Virginia, but he opted to return home instead, where he picked up a number of odd jobs. Tatum soon began a career in the construction industry as a roofer, a mortgage broker and a salesperson at Dillard’s. He hung up his tool belt and name tags for a G-string when he began working as a stripper at a local club, where he took the stage name, Chan Crawford.
Channing Tatum Begins Career Path:
In 2000, Channing Tatum landed an audition as a dancer for a music video, which he was hired for. The job earned his $400 as a background dancer in Ricky Martin’s popular song "She Bangs" which was filmed in Orlando, Florida. He soon began modelling and his first fashion show was at Level Nightclub in Miami for Men’s Health, this led to modelling sessions with popular Miami Beach publication, Ocean Drive. In 2001, his modelling exposure led to him being named “50 Most Beautiful Faces” in Tear Sheet Magazine.
He decided to explore opportunities in the modelling world and soon booked sessions with Armani, Abercrombie Fitch, Nautica, Dolce & Gabbana and Armani after signing with both Ford Modeling Agency in New York and the Beatrice Agency in Milan, Italy. During this time, Tatum was quoted as saying, "I've been able to explore life, and through exploring it I've found that I love art, I love writing, I love acting, I love all the things that make sense to me. And I've been given the chance to go out and see the world, and to see all the things out there. Not everyone gets that chance."
Channing Tatum Begins Acting Career:
After testing out the "acting waters" by appearing in a couple Mountain Dew and Pepsi commercials in 2002, Channing Tatum decided to continue down that path and got his first official role in 2004 in the TV series CSI: Miami. That part let to a significant role in 2005's drama, Coach Carter, which starred Samuel L. Jackson. For the next several years he continued to model and take small parts in TV shows, movies and music videos, where he displayed his impressive dance moves.
Channing Tatum next was cast in the film She's the Man, playing the love interest of Amanda Bynes' character, the film grossed around $57 million. More importantly for his personal life, in 2006 Tatum starred as a hip-hop dander in Step Up, opposite dancer/actress Jenna Dewan - the film went on to make $114 worldwide.
Tatum continued earning his "acting chops" with roles in A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints, Dear John, The Vow and Magic Mike, which was a film he dreamed of making chronicling his life as a stripper. In recent years he has moved beyond action and dramatic roles into some comedic roles in films like 21 Jump Street and 2013’s cameo as himself in This is the End.
After meeting on the set of Step Up, Channing Tatum and Jenna Dewan began dating and were engaged while vacationing in Hawaii in September 2008 and were married in July 2009.
In 2014, Tatum will reprise his role as Jenko, opposite Jonah Hill in 22 Jump Street.
