Blepharoplasty Facial Surgery

By | Dec 7, 2009 | 0 Comments | Rating: 0

A very common cosmetic facial enhancement surgery is blepharoplasty. It is known as eyelid surgery in layman terms and is a relatively small procedure that can produce wonderful results for some patients. The treatment can be applied to both upper and lower eyelids to appear younger and rested.

The surgical procedure to the upper eyelid is one of the most popular among Asians because it offers a way to fixing undesirable fold patterns and creating new ones. In other cases it is a popular way of correcting sagging under the skin which gives the appearance of being better rested and is often complemented with other facial treatments such as a face lift or brow lift.

Being a relatively small scale procedure, eyelid surgery patients are typically prescribed only local anesthesia to numb the area to be treated. In some cases, however, general anesthesia is used. The procedure simply removes fatty tissue as well as excess skin as necessary. It can take a few hours to complete the procedure and the patient is free to return home shortly thereafter.

There will be some slight discomfort expected after the surgery and the anesthesia wears off. The doctor could prescribe some medication to help deal with any pain or discomfort. There will also be antibiotic medication to fight infection along with care instructions after the surgery.

Common side effects are mild and temporary such as itchy eyes, dry eyes, tearing, or burning eyes. In these cases, lubricant drops can help relieve the problems. Some patients might experience blurred vision or double vision as well as light sensitivity. These should wear off as the eyes heal.

Rare but serious complications include infection of the treated area or anesthesia related issues. Anesthesia risks include cardiac arrhythmia or allergic reactions. Choosing a qualified surgeon to perform the eyelid surgery will reduce or even eliminate most risks.

Among the Asian nationalities, there are many Korean plastic surgery patients who undergo eyelid surgery and other popular Asian plastic surgery procedures.
