By | Sep 10, 2009 | 0 Comments | Rating: 0

A plastic surgery is one of the most important decisions that you could make. In fact, plastic surgeries are considered by many as one investment that could lead to a richer and happier life. And, as with any form of investment, a plastic surgery comes with risk. It is, therefore, important for you to consider all your options. Plastic surgery is one of the things that you cannot just take chances with. And, to decrease risk and achieve the goal that you had in mind, one of, if not, the best options that you could take is to trust board certified plastic surgeons.

How to Find Quality Surgery Care

Your first step in getting quality surgery procedure and care is to browse through board certified plastic surgeons resources. These free online facilities offer their services for patients and consumers to help them find only quality surgery care in their area. There are a number of online resources that list board certified plastic surgeons who are accredited by the American Board of Medical Specialties. By finding plastic surgeons who board certified by a number of plastic surgery boards and societies, you could be assured of receiving only the highest level of service and care.

Why Do I Need to Find Only Those Who are Board Certified

Essentially, board certification or accreditation assures you the quality of plastic surgery that your selected surgeon could provide you. Further, a board certification ensures that he has met the required qualifications, training, and even experience that were necessitated from them by plastic surgery boards and societies. Narrowing your options with board certified plastic surgeons, you could be sure that, whomever you'll choose, these professionals have extensive experience in the procedure that you are planning to undertake. A board certified plastic surgeon also could provide you with fitting recommendations, the risks that are involved in the surgery, and the information that you need to decide on an important point in your life.

The Societies and Boards of Plastic Surgeons

In general, there are three boards and societies that provide the proper certification and accreditation to plastic surgeons, namely, The American Board of Plastic Surgery (ABPS), The American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS), and The American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS).

Basically, plastic surgeons are required to qualify, first, with The American Board of Plastic Surgery (ABPS) before they could consider holding membership with either The American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery or The American Society of Plastic Surgeons.

To be certified by The American Board of Plastic Surgery requires that the physician must have accomplished the following qualifications:

- Graduate of a medical school
- A specialization or residence in any of the following field: orthopedics, otolaryngology, or surgery
- A set of examinations administered by The American Board of Plastic Surgery

Once the physician had fulfilled all the requirements set by The American Board of Plastic Surgery, he is, then, awarded the certification needed to join and apply for membership in either The American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery or The American Society of Plastic Surgeons.

These are but some of the initial requirements that board certified plastic surgeons had to fulfill in order to perform plastic surgeries. Board certified plastic surgeons who would apply for memberships to plastic surgery societies are, further, provided with a set of requirements, such as continuing education and at least 6 years of surgical experience, prior to being admitted.
