Boat Covers Guide

By | 0 Comments | Rating: 0 | |

A boat cover is an important investment to maintain the beauty and longevity of your boat. A water tight cover will keep out dirt, sap and leaves. It can help to keep the interior free from water staining during a rain event. A good quality cover will prevent the sun's ultra violet rays from deteriorating boat paint and clear coat and will prevent fading of interior components. Although boat covers are not necessarily intended to keep out thieves, they do act as a deterrent in such circumstances and a strong cover will also help keep out road debris when in the boat is in transit. Cover materials usually consist of acrylic or polyester materials that come in a rainbow of colors. Stay clear of covers that are made from natural fibers such as cotton. These covers will harbor mold and mildew. This type of cover will not provide a benefit to your boat.

One thing to keep in mind about pontoon boat covers is that if your boat is five years or older it may be necessary to order a custom made cover for it. Custom boat covers can be pricey. It is important to understand that a custom boat cover will provide the best protection because it is made to fit your particular boat. Universal fit covers are available on the market. Understand that the universal cover will not be as effective as a custom cover or a perfect fit cover. When buying bass boat covers, take into account the outboard motor. If your boat make or model is not available, you may have to buy a universal type cover, so you may need to provide measurements.

Proper care and maintenance is important to keep your boat cover in good condition. Never wash a cover in a washing machine. A little vinegar and water applied with a soft bristle brush will clean well. Remember to allow the cover to dry completely before folding it for storage. When using boat covers always use a support pole so that water does not pool on top. This will cause stains and could decrease the life of your cover. When hauling, make sure that the cover is tied down completely so the wind cannot get under it and rip your cover. Pay attention to any metal part of the tie down components so they do not come into contact with the boat's paint. Damage will result in the form of scratches or dulled paint.
