What's So Great about the Bodum Bistro Burr Grinder?
The Bodum Bistro Electric Burr Coffee Grinder is an innovative new way to grind beans for your morning brew. It has 14 different settings from coarse to fine grind. The grind catcher is made out of borosilicate glass which reduces static electricity and that means no jumping coffee grounds. Grinders that use plastic grind are famous for static. This causes coffee grounds to stick to the side of the hopper or flying all over your counter top. The borosilicate glass allows you to grind and keep the grinds where you want them.
Burr grinders are the choice of coffee lovers who grind their own beans. Because the Bodum Bistro Burr Grinder is adjustable, you can fine tune the grind for your particular taste and brewing method. This unit also allows you to continuously adjust the fineness settings. You can go from standard grind to French press style and anywhere in between with just a turn of a button. Grinding times are set by seconds or you can use the quick grind button. Either way, you can precisely set the time you need to grind according to your taste.
The Bodum doesn't look like your typical grinder. It comes in five different colors: Orange, Red, Green, Black and White. Its nice to a have a choice other than black and silver which seems to be the only choice in many grinders these days. This grinder is smaller than most which saves counter space. These colorful little guys have a playful, almost jazzy charm to them. Bodum took a chance on this design as it is definitely not the status quo. Hats off to you Bodum.
With all this going for it, most people would say that the best thing about this grinder is its value. It is priced hundreds of dollars less than similarly equipped models. The conical burrs do a much better job of grinding than blade type grinders. An even grind is produced at each setting and the motor is surprisingly quiet. The rubber seal and glass catcher really do prevent flying coffee grounds. The Bodum is very easy to clean. The hopper pops right off for washing. The quality of the grinder stands out even before you grind your first batch of beans.
The only down side to this grinder is the maximum grinding duration of 90 seconds. Bodum recommends a 5 minute cooling off period if you use it for this long, to prevent motor overheating. For most users however, 20 seconds or so is all that is needed for your first pot of the day.
Overall, the Bodum Bistro Burr Grinder is an affordable and easy to use burr grinder. The combination of being simple to use, easy to clean, and fun to look at will make this a welcome addition to any kitchen. It should be appealing to a wide variety of coffee drinkers, especially those who are just starting to get serious about grinding beans, but aren't ready to commit to the pricier models.
