Body hair removal has become very popular within the last few decades, among both men and women. Many people would be surprised to know that even among developed countries, women did not start shaving until sometime around the early 20th century. So the desire to have smooth, hairless legs and arms has become common with women only fairly recently. Body hair removal options for men -- sometimes known as "man-scaping" -- is an even more recent development.

Since hair removal for men and women has become considered yet another form of beauty or hygeine maitenance, it's not surprising that there are so many products or services on the market developed to temporarily or permanently remove body hair. There are many different hair removal options available, most of which can remove hair from just about any part of your body. Back hair, chest hair, leg hair, arm hair and facial hair, etc, are all able to be removed both temporarily or permanently via a variety different hair removal systems. Read on to learn more about body hair removal.

The cost of hair removal varies depending on what area you are treating, as well as what kind of product or service you are using to remove your unwanted hair. Some methods, while they may seem cheap at first, can become very expensive overtime what with multiple and repeated treatments; whereas other methods, while they may be very expensive upfront, will pay off in the long run and may be less expensive.

One of the most obvious options for body hair removal is to shave. However, for most people, shaving is not really the best hair removal option, since the hairs grow back extremely fast and can cause unsightly bumps. More than that, it's not an option for female facial hair removal, as it can make the hair grow back thick and stubby.

Waxing is another common hair removal treatment, and is typically preferred to shaving. It's more expensive, and most certainly more painful for some, but it lasts much longer than shaving. You can wax just about every single part of your body, so unlike shaving, which can look unattractive or cause irritation in some areas, waxing can be used in sensitive areas, like the face or bikini line. Some people with very sensitive skin, however, can be allergic to the wax or develop irritations as a result.

Usually, the most popular long-term body hair removal treatments are electrolysis and laser hair removal. With electrolysis, hair is removed by sending an electrical current through the hair, killing the root from which it grows. It can take multiple treatments, because you have to remove one hair at a time.

Laser hair removal treatments, however, remove hair permanently, or at least semi-permanently, by targeting the melanin in the follicle and preventing the hair from growing further. Due to the affects on the melanin, people with dark skin may be concerned that the laser hair removal options may harm their skin, due to the alteration of the melanin, but lasers can be placed on a low setting so that the skin itself remains unchanged and unaffected. It usually takes a couple treatments in order to completely remove body hair from some areas.

Removing body hair, either temporarily or permanently, has become very popular in modern times among both men and women, and in certain countries is seen as a form of beauty treatment. Fortunately, there are many body hair removal treatments available on the market, so it's simply a matter of finding which treatment is best.
