A bookkeeping career can be flexible and extremely rewarding. Bookkeepers can work in a variety of settings, including small businesses, large companies, or even in their own home-based business. In addition, bookkeepers usually find themselves in demand, even in times of economic downturns or recessions.

Training to be a bookkeeper can be done on the job, in a traditional classroom setting, or through online bookkeeping classes. While is college degree is not necessary, some post-high school education is desirable. Additionally, becoming a certified bookkeeper can be a real boost to your career. Bookkeeping Certification is available through community colleges and professional bookkeeping associations, such as the AIPB (Association of Professional Bookkeepers).

Jobs for bookkeepers are listed on most internet job banks. Additionally, making contact with other accounting professionals such as CPA's can lead to work as a bookkeeper. It is possible to find both part-time and full-time opportunities in this field.
