Metallica Books

Metallica is one of the most popular heavy metal bands of all time formed in 1981 when James Hetfield responded to an advertisement that drummer Lars Ulrich had posted in a local newspaper.  The current band features guitarist Kirk Hammett, bassist Robert Trujillo alongside singer James Hetfield and drummer Lars Ulrich. There are many great books written about this band along with transcriptions books for their songs and playing styles.

There is no doubt that Metallica will forever leave their mark on the world of heavy metal. While the band is aging they still continue to crank out great music such as their Death Magnetic album. The band can’t fully capture the music of their early years but they are still one of the top metal bands of all time. New bands continue to be influenced by them and their music is as popular today as when it was first released.  New Metallica books continue to be released and you can always find something interesting to read about this band. As a guitar player I have owned several of their album transcription books.

Metallica History Books

Enter Night: A Biography of Metallica is one of the latest books on the band. Their roots are in the heavy rock of 70s groups. Their music fused early heavy metal and punk to form thrash. Their bassist died and they survived to become the band they are today. As grunge threatened music, they reinvented themselves. Hetfield went into rehab and they almost fell apart. They are Metallica, one of the most influential heavy metal bands. From 1983- 1986 Metallica produced some great music and much of that music was helped by the great bassist Cliff Burton who was tragically killed in a bus accident. To Live Is to Die the Life and Death of Metallica's Cliff Burton is the story of that great bass player who helped the band become what they are now.  Metallica: Club Dayz 1982-1984 follows the band with rare photographs and forms a visual history of Metallica’s debut shows in San Francisco. Tracing the band's growth, there are shots of Dave Mustaine and Ron McGovney playing together along with the debut of Kirk Hammett and the band’s back stage antics. There are many other great reference and history books on this heavy metal band.

Metallica Songs

Metallica is known for some great heavy metal songs. From the beginning there were tunes such as Creeping Death, Seek and Destroy, Fade to Black, and For Whom the Bells Tolls. With more success came monster tracks such as Master of Puppets and One. The black album solidified the band’s grip on modern metal with Enter Sandman and they reinvented themselves through the load days with tracks such as Hero of the Day and King Nothing.  With the release of Death Magnetic the band is back in full force with tracks such as My Apocalypse and All Nightmare Long. There are many great tablature and song books to these great songs along with books such as The Art of Kirk Hammett which breaks down his playing style. Metallica - The Complete Lyrics: Second Edition features the lyrics to all their famous songs and makes a great Metallica book to own. Kill em All is the first tablature book that I owned from them and I learned most of the songs from it which helped me become a better guitar player.

New Album

After a strange collaboration with Lou Reed that was a failure the band is now working on a new studio album but a release date has not been set. With plenty of transcription books on them available and history books about the band you'll find plenty of Metallica books to read.
