Boosting Your Immune System
As we enter flu season, it seems like a good idea to start eating the things that are really going to help you to stay active and strong. Here are some of the best things for your immune system. Taking a proactive approach will help you to have a better chance of fighting off the germs you come in contact with this season.
Surprisingly, lean beef is a great food for you to eat when you're trying to build your immune system. It's a good source of zinc, which helps your white blood cells to develop. Protein in general will help your body to build a healthy immune system.
Vitamin A is good for your skin, which is, of course, your first line of defense against most things. Some of the best things to include in your diet to get this are orange vegetables - sweet potatoes, carrots, squash and pumpkins.
Eat yogurt, particularly if you've already been sick and are taking anti-biotics. Yogurt helps to give your body the good bacterias it needs to stave off the germs that cause diarrhea, among other things.
Avoid sugar and coffee. Both of these weaken your immune system and caffeine in particular robs your body of minerals that it needs, as well as increasing the speed at which you become dehydrated. If you insist on continuing to drink caffeine, add more water to your day to counteract the diarrhetic.
Eat lots of raw fruits and vegetables. This is the best way to get minerals, anti-oxidants, fiber, etc. in your diet.
Try adding lemons to your diet. This will restore a pH balance that encourages healthy bacteria and discourages viruses.
