Should I Buy a Braun 390cc or 590cc?
Are you debating whether to buy a Braun 3 Series or 5 Series shaver -- specifically the 390cc Vs 590cc (& basically trying to figure out the differences between them) and which one offers you the best value & performance? If so, you have come to the right comparison guide. The following account will perform a breakdown contrasting analysis -- feature by feature -- highlighting both their differences and similarities, and ultimately giving you a clear overview of each shaver -- and from which you will be able to easily decide to buy either the 390cc or 590cc.
390cc: Middle Trimmer | SensoFoil
590cc: Active Lift | OptiFoil
Both the 590cc & 390cc have had the cutting elements optimized (with the former being slightly more advanced in this respect) with opti-foil & senso-foil respectively -- to produce a super close yet comfortable shave. They also have a middle trimmer that they term the active lift (which is a patented device) that basically 'actively' lifts flat lying hair in order for them to be cut (and operates as a segment within the the triple action cutting system, explained below). So comparing the 390cc and 590cc in this regard, the 590cc edges it given it has a slightly more advanced & comforting hypoallergenic opti-material.

Shaving Features & Performance
390cc: Contour Adaptive Head | Triple FreeFloat & Cutting System | Precision Long Hair
590cc: Contour Adaptive Head | Triple Action Cutting System | Precision Long Hair
Both the models offer a contour adaptive head where they flex and adapt perfectly in line with all your facial contours -- and also allows for a more optimal performance in difficult to reach areas (such as below the chin). Moreover, as stated above they each offer the triple action cutting system -- where it has two optimized twin side blades that flex to cut the hairs at skin level (adapting to long and short stubble). They also offer a precision long hair trimmer which is basically intended for grooming and maintaining facial hair (e.g. mustache, side-burns, goatees etc.).

390cc: Wet & Dry | Washable | Clean & Renew Systems (hygiene indicator)
590cc: Wet & Dry | Washable | Clean & Renew Systems (hygiene indicator)
As with all Braun shavers -- they are 100% waterproof, which in turn makes them extremely easy to clean (simply wash under a rinsing tap) as well as offering you the option between a wet & dry shave. They also come with a clean & renew system that acts like a docking station since it charges your shaver as well as lubricates and cleans it (with a alcohol solution, killing off 99.999% of bacteria -- whilst adding a scent of lemon) -- making it like new with every shave. Moreover, the shavers offer a hygiene indicator stating the level of cleanliness of the shaver, in which the auto clean program selector will then choose the most appropriate cleaning system to implement (pretty cool). They also offer a foil replacement indicator (shaver heads should replaced at least once a year).
390cc: LED indicator (5 stage) | 45 Mins Run Time | Charge: 1 Hr | quick charge
590cc: LED indicator (5 stage) | 45 Mins Run Time | Charge: 1 Hr | quick charge
The 590cc offers a slighty more detailed interface than the 390cc -- however both are installed with the same lit-ion battery taking an hour to charge (from dead to full) -- offering you a total of 45 mins run time. There is also a quick charge feature with both shavers that I particularly like -- which basically allows you to charge the shaver (when dead) for 5 mins and it will offer you 1 shave (particularly good if you are in a rush to get to work & forgot to charge the shaver).
The 390cc & 590cc is backed by a two year warranty program (to cover costs that fix any possible defects that you incur whilst using either saver).
Dimensions & Weight | Finish

Average Review Rating (sourced Amazon.com)
390cc: 4.3 out of 5 (86%) from 50 reviews.
590cc: 3.9 out of 5 (78%) from 180 + reviews.
Conclusion: Which Should You Buy the 390cc or 590cc?
Clearly, the 590cc offers you a slighty better shaving performance than the 390cc (e.g. senso-foil vs opti-foil) -- this being said they are still very similar (yet excellent) shavers, so it mainly comes down to an issue of their price. For me, if the 590cc is no more expensive than $40, I would opt for that -- however anymore than that, then I don't think the 590cc does actually offer enough 'extra' performance to justify it (and in which case I'd go for the 390cc).
Note: although both shavers cater very well for sensitive skin, if you suffer particularly badly with it (& to get an even better shave) I recommend you have a look at the 790cc (below) due to its personalization feature and intelligent pulsonic technology.
